Ding ding ding ding. Politics cliche bingo, we have a winner. It’s ******** like that which will keep the ***** in power at the next poll.
Are the posters voting "worse" on the wind up, or just oblivious to what the current government have been up to for the last couple of years?
Twelve people have voted worse or the same. What is actually passing through their brain cells on a daily basis? Milk shake?
I voted better. This coming from someone who has opposed the Covid lockdowns and mandates. I firmly believe Labour would have removed even more basic freedoms. (I also don't want to have that argument) Despite my thoughts on that it is not even open for debate in my mind that the people of the UK would be on the whole in a better place currently if we had a Labour government. Many problems would still exist but we are comparing that hypothetical against a corrupt government led by a proven liar of a Prime Minister. It is, in reality little contest.
Who the bloody hell has voted worse? Seriously? I doubt you’d convince many signed up subscribers to the Daily Mail of that!
The question is, if Corbyn/Starmer were in power now - and had done what Johnson and has done - what would the response be? They're all the same.... I doubt it.
I'd be proud of a Corbyn government; a Starmer government to me is just a continuation of right wing dominance.
Starmer would be a huge improvement. I think Corbyn might be too but negotiating with Putin might be beyond him...
Not really because people who have that mindset tend not to vote. The people who keep them in power are traditional labour voters who have swung the other way coupled with the diehard shameless tory voter. I would never vote tory but it's pretty poor when we have Starmer and people like Angela 'I'm just a girl from Stockport' Rayner, who is smugness personified, fronting the Labour party. And there has never been a time in British history when there's been more in-it-for-themselves, lying, career politicians than there has been now. It's no wonder people have lost heart and some are apathetic. Watching PMQs is as disheartening as watching the reds this season, but in the schoolyard with children bickering and backstabbing. But yeh, let blame ordinary folk who question the integrity and intentions of the modern day politician. Can't believe the pile ons on here sometimes. We should focus our anger in another direction.
Honestly? A Labour government would have probably negotiated a Brexit that kept us in the Single Market. So the economy would be in a better state, but the Brexiteers would be up in arms. And bear in mind that the venn diagram of Brexiteers and covidiots are close to a circle, then we’d have seen civil disobedience during covid on a larger scale than in France etc. So whilst ideologically a Labour government would have pleased me, the reality for the country is less rosy. We can’t pretend that the Brexit shi tstorm would suddenly disappear just cos we elected a Labour government. 10 years of a small number of idiots creating a war on the EU has consequences, and ignoring that is simply creating a fantasy alternate universe.
He lost 2 elections. Name another politician that lost one GE and got another chance? Name one that lost 2, then won a third. The fact that the cult of Corbyn still exists shows that the left can be as ridiculous as the right.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for a tory government, they are utter scumbags. But do people honestly think Starmer is a viable leader? I think he's weak as piiss
That's exactly what the tories want you to believe. That way you won't see the difference between them and almost anyone else on the planet who would do a better job for the good of the country and it's people. What you say is simply not true, there are many decent genuine people (one or two even in the tory party) who are not just in it for themselves. Startmer for one, he could earn far more money as a top barrister than he ever could as Prime Minister.
I don't like him at all but he, along with every other non racist, sexist, homophobic, corrupt, lying, criminal is a better option than the man who is currently pissing himself laughing at our expense
The point of your post was to support Corbyn. In reality, I think he’d have been brilliant at domestic policy. But Christ knows how it’d have been implemented because his front bench was as lightweight as Johnson’s (for the same reason, he demanded 100% loyalty). His foreign policy would have been a disaster. Starmer is a better politician than Corbyn by a country mile, but he doesn’t have the strong principles Corbyn had. How that pans out is anyones guess. I’m not an expert, but I’m smart enough to realise that voting Labour under each of those leaders is a better thing than voting Tory.
I don't disagree. But Johnson will be out through the door (hard to believe right now, I know), and will be replaced by another cretin. We need a strong opposition, and I'm not seeing it.
I agree with you on the main question, and that either leader is better than voting tory. But I think you hit the nail on the head when you brought in principles. Strong principles make a good leader and a good politician, and Corbyn was in my view much better than Starmer because Starmer is clearly motivated by career. He also doesn't have the gumption to truly overthrow the tories. Edit: but take your point on Corbyn losing two GEs. We're in a pickle arent we?
Anger is focused in another direction. Yet people still refuse to employ their brains and vote Tory instead. If someone tells you they're going to rob you blind you don't go ahead and give them the keys to the house.
