I was going to dig out a link, but exile has already replied. The key ones in my mind are the baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Wonderful wonderful European countries who escaped the Soviet clutches. The geography of their surroundings if Ukraine succumbs is extremely worrying.
They've also (along with the baltic states) developed a key foothold in information, technology and medical sciences.
You can only hope that even Putin is not crazy enough to invade a NATO country and that's what will protect them. That being said there's nothing that will stop him continually trying to push the envelope in baby steps. It's what Russia has always done.
This feels very different though. I don't know how others feel. This is a massive invasion. Other things have been nominal incursions and skirmishes. This is a blatant war on Ukraine, in the face of significant opposition from EU, US, NATO and UN voices. If he wins Ukraine swiftly, the border of Russia advances significantly, and with successful troops there without any western military conflict.... how does he feel? Is he well? Who knows what goes on in his mind. But this just feels so different in action and rhetoric to anything he's done in 20 years.
I love the baltic countries. I've had numerous discussions with my wife the last two years of if it was safe enough for her to travel abroad again, where would we revisit first. Riga (in Latvia) has regularly been the top answer.
So basically we're hoping he decides to stop at the Ukraine and empathising with their people. The way I see it we're powerless to do anything else. It's just empty rhetoric. The alternative doesn't bare thinking about.
There would be no churchill if the worst happened russia have arms that could wipe out nations and the blokes always been abit nuts. It wasnt just saddam who had WMD.
The very people who accused Saddam had WMD. Have WMD. In fact whilst we don't have as much as some countries, the UK are quite capable of wiping out a nation or 2 ourselves.
Wouldn't be best for the Ukraine people if they just surrender? That way there will be less loss of life for all parties and something could be agreed with Russia.
I know that mate we acted like police when we thought saddam could have some. Now with putin he is like the bully the bullys are afraid of. Quite worrying.
Germany do not get 70% of their energy from Russia, not even close, the only person to ever claim that is Trump and the reason he's the only one is it's total gibberish
I was wondering when the Torys would start blaming Corbyn then low and behold this morning on LBC that piece of dog ***** James Cleverley said the reason why all this Russian money found itself in the Tory coffers was because of Corbyn you just could not make this bullsh1t up. Anyone for Tennis.
