The Chevette - I was working for the Coal Board at the Bretby research site on the MINOS colliery plant control system in 1984 and had to visit Gascoign Wood near Selby one day. The next morning after staying at my mum's, the gearbox had seized up (the previous day it made a noise like a motorbike revving up). The car was still less than 4 years old. I had a scrapyard gearbox fitted at a garage in Goldthorpe. About a year later, it suddenly lost all power as I was going to work and it turned out that there was a hole in one of the pistons. I had a scrapyard engine fitted in Swadlincote. Not long after that the main cable from the battery to the starter motor solenoid touched the exhaust manifold and shorted out resulting in the car going up in flames on the A444 near where I lived. Definitely the worst car I've ever had.
Back in the day I had a 1976 Morris Marina, paid £50 for it and never taxed insured or MOT'd it never spent a penny on repairs, ran it for 3 years and scrapped it for £25...the car was pile of junk but the best value for money I ever had
My Dad had an Avenger. Think it was branded Vauxhall then though. Maroon with a black vinyl roof. I took my first driving test in it. The fact I said "first" will indicate it did not go well. Neither did my second, in my mini... Both rust buckets.
