Is it just me that finds North East fans quite arrogant? We had to wait outside the station today because the Leeds platform was full - bloke explained why as it was dangerous and overcrowded. He then said don't worry about your train as they had put an extra train Boro fan - we've brought 5k you should be putting more trains on Me : he's just said they are - be here in 5 minutes Well there should be more for us! How many trains do you want? But there's thousands of us. Yep we know ...
Not just you. Or me. That clip from the 70’s with Brian Clough, Laurie McMenemy(sp) and the two north east journalists is just gold. He puts them in their place but it shows you the arrogance has always been there.
That conversation today about the trains- is like the whole rail network had to stop for them! Thing is the three main ones have nothing to be arrogant about - must be the biggest underachieving area in football.
I think the people of the North East are a wonderful lot - except when it comes to their football fans. They have a massively inflated view of their own significance. I was a student in Newcastle and had many conversations with Toon fans about their "wonderful support" I always pointed out the geographical truth that they have NO competition. They live in a massive city and the only significant competition are Sunderland 15 miles away and Middlesbro 40 miles away. Whereas Barnsley is a small town and have at least 6 significant clubs within 20 miles. Widen that to 35 miles and you include Man U and City. They still didn't get it.
