The draw for the next round being on the radio on the following Monday at 1:30pm live from Lancaster Gate
All the games kicking of at 3:00pm on the Saturday
Replays being on the next Monday/Tuesday after the first game
Never ending replays until there was a winner
Both teams wearing their "away" kit f there was a colour clash
The final was always on the first Saturday in May, kick off at 3:00pm
Final shown live on BBC & ITV

All of which have been kicked into touch because of TV money!

Arsenal lost the 1978 and 80 Cup Finals because of never ending replays.

Not usually the first Saturday. My wife's birthday is 15th, and the final seems to have fallen on it fairly often over the years!

It depends how far back you are going. In the 50s and 60s and probably 70s it was invariably on the first Saturday in May. As "Harry Hough" has taken his pseudonym from a Barnsley keeper of the 50s, I assume that he is going a long way back.

I can`t remember both teams playing in their away strips if there was a clash of colours.

I really miss 92 league clubs entering it and taking it seriously.

The thing I miss most about being in the FA Cup is absolutely nothing , I do not like it all these days , a lot of the bigger clubs have no respect at all & put weakened teams out but I think it has lost its magic for me .

Friday night 'Up for the Cup' light entertainment on TV. Fans and celebs of the two team.

The build up Saturday morning on both channels.

Cameras 'live' at the team hotel, and even on the team coach. Technology, eh?

Teams wearing lovely new match day suits.

    Teams releasing a record

    3pm kick off

Full Wembley. Without an empty Club Wembley section.

Guessing the crowd would be 100,000

Incorrectly guessing the crowd would be 99,999 one year when my Dad couldn't make it

Watching the engraving of the trophy and putting the ribbons on.

    Quirky banners

    50k fans from each side.

Knowing the season had finished a week before, and this was the final game of the season before we got cricket stuff out

I don't miss the endless replays, but there should at least be one replay.

The final should be a 3 o'clock kick off, the Saturday after the league season finishes. The 6.15 kick offs, during the season have been terrible.

The rot started when Man Utd were allowed to pull out of the competition in 2000.

The way I remember it Arsenal lost the 1980 Cup Final because Trevor Brooking scored for West Ham.

The whole TV final day. Filming players on the coach and in the hotel. A Question of Sport and the Final music videos. The drive down Wembley Way. The celebrity pre match game (I went to 87 final Spurs v Cov ans saw Daley Thompson score with a overhead kick). All family sat watching it with a fry up.
Guessing how many tin foil and cardboard cups we could see. Having a 10p bet to try and get the correct score.

As a football romantic now I can't even tell you who won any of the last 25 finals. Only one I recall watching in that time I think is the Liverpool West Ham one (I think).
