Again, I'm no fan of the pattern of behaviour, it's just an observation. My argument is that a more objective understanding of the world may allow us to avoid, or at least mitigate to a great extent, these tragedies.
Sanction the bad people, don't sanction people just because they were born Russian. The rich and powerful even with the sanctions which still don't go far enough will never suffer. The powerless members of the public having banks restrict their finances making it harder to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads are the people who will suffer. If the public protest they would get locked up like primary school children have been for protesting. If they do that to kids what will happen to adults?
How do you do that ? Won’t all the Russians say I’m a good guy don’t sanction me . You seem to be of the opinion that the Russian Army should be left alone because it’s nowt to do with the Russian people . Just out of interest what would you suggest happens whilst women and Children are being murdered in their own homes by the Russian peoples Army ? PS They can’t lock everybody up , the Russian people should be the ones to stop this , you seem to suggest a Russian soldier should kill innocent people because he’s afraid his family will be killed if he don’t , that’s just bonkers
Worth a watch as it potentially cuts through some of the misunderstandings about Russian military tactics....
Except it wasn't out of our control was it? We voted for Tony Blair. We allowed him to invade Iraq without ousting him. If the world thought we were in the wrong and had started to make my life a living hell I would have been putting any pressure I could on getting rid of Blair and so would you and everyone else. Result? Blair would have gone one way or another. The west won't attack him physically so the only people who can stop him are Russians. Sorry Russians, you may be nice people but if you need to stand up to this bully and tell him he's wrong. If you don't do that then your company wil go under. Oh well
Trouble is, the tories would always do what the US wanted so I'm not sure it would have been that simple.
Nobody said it would be easy . Freedom sometimes means sacrifices as history has shown look at South Africa what they endured .
Times have changed. The 'we' in question is no more 'we' than it is 'they' when chanting scab at a 20 year old nottm forest fan.
Plenty protested in this country in favour of sanctions including myself . Sanctions were eventually applied including sporting ones against an hostile thatcher/ Reagan administration. Once the unrest starts in Russia and everyone suffering they’ll soon ditch the Kremlin narcissist or make him change tact .
I worry more about our soft leaders in the western world Biden and Johnson Jesus the riskiest will push this to see how far they can go. Think it would have been different with thatcher and Reagan.
Just been reported, Russian Naval forces are intending to do an amphibious landing in Odessa...apparently they have just shot down a Romanian Nato helicopter.
Seems to me he’s trying to escalate whilst he’s still got the Kremlin on side as he knows he won’t survive the sanctions fallout in the medium term .
Having just read a bit more about it, the Ukrainians have feared this for sometime, over the last four or five years they've been developing their own 'Neptune' system, unfortunately they are due to come into service next month, UK agreed last year to send them £1.7b worth of anti ship missiles, just to hope they've been delivered.
I'm just pointing out it's not quite as simple as blaming the Russian people for their government's decisio ns.
