Love marzipan on cakes! There was one I had on Italy that was a sponge cake with icing and marzipan which was delicious. Think it was called Cassata.
I don't mind the odd little bit of marzipan but most cakes have way too much so you can't actually taste the cake. When it comes down to fruit cake (especially Christmas cake soaked in brandy) I like it with cheese.
On the subject of cakes, am I the only one who finds cake mixture (before baking) far more delicious than the finished cake?
Yuk! No thanks. I finally succeeded last December, to convince the wife not to put any marzipan and icing on the Xmas cake as I detest both. That took me 32 years.....
