    Not sure if already posted:
Truck reversed into gates of Russian Embassy in Dublin.
Embassy release statement including these words

The incident is cause of extreme concern. We believe that no people of sound mind could support such senseless and barbaric actions," the embassy said.

I watched an interview with a Russian soldier (press conference style - not just on a phone in the middle of nowhere). I think he was referenced as a prisoner of war or at least one who had been captured.

He was open, honest, talked about what they were told heading in to Ukraine. Nothing about bio-labs on the Eastern border and all about a population under duress, who would welcome the soldiers with open arms as they were run by neo-Nazis and were demanding Russia intervene.

He talked about the media and how difficult it is to see the truth. With many Russians not having the internet or not using the internet to source news, and believing just what they see on Russian TV. He realised they weren't wanted in Ukraine when his favourite boxers, Lomachenko and Usyk, were doing interviews saying Russians weren't welcome. Then he dug a little deeper and realised the error of his ways. Really humble, apologetic, but a harsh reality of the brain washing being actioned by Putin.

Potential flashpoint in that the UK will back Poland should they decide to send fighter jets to Ukraine. Hoping European nations pressure against this. It's getting a bit WW1. Hoping calm head continue to prevail. Sad situation but leaders need to think objectively, not emotionally, how we can provide Russia with an off ramp. Sad I know, but likely only way out of it.

Given what I am reading from various sources I am not sure that there is an off ramp left available that Putin will accept.

Ben Wallace displaying a remarkable degree of ignorance.

"Poland had been one of our closest allies for over 150 years.”

Really? Poland didn’t exist 150 years ago having been absorbed into The Russian Empire, Austrian Empire and Prussia since the end of the 18th century.

    Re supplying Polish Migs….

“Britain will stand by Poland whatever choice that country makes but it will be decision for Poland because the consequences that Russia may choose to inflict will be in directly onto Poland… ultimately the ‘blowback’ will be on Polish people.’ Shouldn't this be a joint NATO decision?

So yes, we’ll stand by you, but it’s your decision and if the **** hits the fan, it will be on your head it's nothing to do with us.

    Well done Ben.

Isn't this a breach of the Geneva Convention?

Beyond my pay grade. This was a ten minute video shared by a reputable journalist (to my knowledge anyway).

'Captured' might be playing it up a bit as he was obviously free and not thrown in a prison.

Here you go. I'm hoping Rupert Myers is as respectable as he comes across........

We should 100% be backing Poland.

Regardless of whether Rupert Myers is respectable, its still against the Geneva Convention to expose prisoners of war to public curiosity.

I'm confused. Sorry, I might have genuinely missed the point you were making. I thought you were implying that if a respectable journo had shared it then it's unlikely to be a breach of the Geneva Convention?

I thought it would go without saying that I'm not disputing the content of what he said as it seems to accord with other accounts, but nevertheless I don't think POWs should be paraded in front of the press.

One I saw was similar, but they were told they were going on exercises and when it became apparent it wasn’t true they were told if they didn’t go in there would be repercussions towards the family at home.

    Sadly it's nothing new...

Finland 1939 - Soviet soldiers were told that Finland had attacked the Soviet Union but many didn’t believe that. Captain Akhemdov was confronted by a peasant soldier. “Comrade Commander. Tell me why do we fight this war? Did not Comdrade Voroshilov declare at the Party Congress that we don’t want an inch of other people’s lands and we will not surrender an inch of our own. Now we are going to fight. For what?”

Not at all. I said I wouldn't have a clue knowledge wise, hence the 'above my pay grade comment'. This POW rule is new to me. Mentioning the respectable journalist was my safety net in case I was sharing something dubious - knowing how the BBS loves a pile-on.

No, I wasn't suggesting you should be dragged to the Hague and put on trial.

You ask a Pole if it existed 150 years ago.

1939 we supposedly went to war to defend Poland's sovereignty... but abandoned it to the USSR after the war. Wouldn't say we're the best of allies.

Any NATO country becoming involved in conflict with Russia risks direct attack - nuclear? - by Russia.
The choice for the Government of any NATO country is either become directly involved and risk the safety of that country's citizens or to support Ukraine by other means - sanctions etc.
I don't think many UK citizens would support direct involvement if the result of that was the chance of a nuclear attack on the UK.

    absolutely right.

Countries don't appear and the suddenly disappear to re-appear at a later time.
