    Sanctioned but they can carry on as normal until this is over under special licence. They'll come out smelling or roses in the end because they'll argue the government put them in this position.

    Club shop closed and can’t sell new tickets.
    Personally I would close the club. Football is broken and this would be a lesson that you reap what you sow

    I dont think thats right - It should be confiscated from its owner and auctioned off to a new fit and proper owner with proceeds going to aid the rebuilding of Ukraine once they kick Putin out.

    Does this mean Abramovic can no longer sell it?

    I don't know how the UK govt will deal with physical and company assets, but anything in a UK bank account will no longer be accessible to him. And yes, he should no longer be classified as the owner of Chelsea FC.

    How about a 2 division relegation for Chelse meaning only 2 teams are relegated from the Championship this season?
    though that would still be us and Peterborough it would at least keep our season alive a bit longer

    I think that’s effectively what the government are attempting to do. By freezing the asset now they are just stopping him from selling and taking his £3bn back to Putin.

    “Despite everything he brought to club in terms of pure financial power, the 19-year period at Chelsea has now been tainted.

    “If there is a positive, it is that there is clearly a scramble to buy the club. Every billionaire going seems to be staking a claim. This will drive down the price."

    Can someone explain how a scramble of billionaires will drive the price down?

    ESPN senior writer Mark Ogden told BBC Radio 5 Live that the government sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich could have serious ramifications for Chelsea.

    “It’s multi-layered, it’s huge and it affects every little area of the club.

    "They can’t sort out new contracts so they can’t negotiate a new contract with Antonio Rudiger who is one of their best players. He’s pretty certain to leave as free agent.

    "Once we see fine print, it's cataclysmic for Chelsea. It’s unprecedented.

    "Chelsea have become one of the biggest clubs in world. Abramovich transformed them from a club with great ambition but nothing to back it up to the reigning European champions, the reigning world club champions.

    "No matter what happens from this point, they won’t be the Chelsea we’ve grown to know. Abramovich has been loaning them what amounts to £90m a year, nobody does that anymore."

    Admittedly my version is a bit extreme, but agree with the asset being sold and the proceeds used - I would suggest used to fund provision of housing and support for Ukrainian refugees in the UK
    Reparations from Russia should rebuild The Ukraine

    Fk Chelsea and their owner, why it’s taken a war to remove him from washing his criminal proceedings through football says a lot about both the government and footballing authorities where all that counts is money.
