Sadly Benson is LG 1 at best. Palmer on the other hand would struggle in LG 2 . would be really surprised if either proved me wrong bt ya never kno..

After today I don’t want to see either of them in a Barnsley shirt ever again. Sadly we will though due to our paper thin squad.

I’m annoyed about it too. But read the post again. It’s too much.

It's a good job the change wasn't made sooner. As I said earlier him and Palmer aren't trying to be crap, they just are.

Just makes you wonder why we signed him in the first place. Doesn’t it?

He can take a mean free-kick if you catch him on a Tuesday.

When Benson came on I found it a strange experience watching him run around, first up top, and then in the middle. It was how I imagined things would be if, in my dreams, I came on for the reds. That rabbit-in-the-headlights moment, running around and frantically asking those around me, 'where do you want me to stand, lads?' And before I know it, the balls zipped through my legs, passed out wide, and Harry Wilson has struck a delightful, devastating curler into the top bins.

I stated as fact that it's the manager / coaches responsibility to find a way to get the best out of each player. I firmly believe that's the case - if not, whose job is it? However I clearly stated that I don't know what Herbie Kane needed.

Irrespective, you've called me out for assuming that he'd perform if he was here. But aren't you also assuming that he wouldn't?

The BBS is a place where we all express opinions. Mine is that neither Palmer nor Benson are effective in central midfield this season - I think both are having very poor seasons. The view I expressed is that with effective man management Kane would have been a better option than either. It's not a given, nor a no brainer, but my opinion is that given the man management I've referred to, he couldn't be any worse. And we are very short of options in central midfield - again, imo.

Re looking at the bigger picture, I'm not sure why you would make a point about the majority not seeing the bigger picture in response to my comment and it therefore appears you're including me in this group whose opinions you don't view as valid? Either way, i think that making such a broad statement to discredit my / their opinion because you have a different view is unfair.

I also give our supporters more credit than you - I think most (and certainly a majority) of us are knowledgeable and well capable of thinking things through and considering the big picture. Tbf, I note you've changed it to 'some' in your response above.

Just seen the highlights and the mix up between Benson and Palmer looks even worse on second viewing, and I think it’s on Benson, who I think gets in Palmer’s way and sells him a dummy.

It was a tragi-comedy of epic proportions. But yeh, he's just not very good. I wouldn't go as far as to call him a disgrace though.

Wasn’t just that alone. Watch his whole performance from coming on. He literally did everything wrong in every situation he was involved with. Was meant to help us shut out a game and he literally handed the impetuous back to Fulham. They both did.

I know, was bizarre to watch really. A bit like sending a snooker player on and telling them 'do your worst.'

He strolled around with his hands on his hips like he just wanted to be at meadowhall spending his thousands. Disgraceful attitude. Nothing to do with ability and everything to do with a lack of effort

So the other **** knows how many games that we’ve been smashed into next week suddenly don’t matter. Benson bottling a tackle has now cost us relegation.

Absolutely. As I just mentioned in another post, we wouldn't have signed Benson unless his real footballing abilities were far greater than he's shown us so far. As for Palmer, he looked exceptional at times last season, so again it's not a problem of lack of ability.

I agree. It hasn't. We're not down yet, but even if we were, you can't pin the failings of an entire season (and pre-season) on one incident.

But watch Fulham's goal again. When the ball is headed back out of the danger zone and drops to the Fulham player, Benson is caught too far forward. He doesn't bottle the tackle, because he's never in a position to make one - his lack of positional sense has left him in no-man's land. This means that Palmer has to rush out and... well, at that point, I give up. I've watched it several times and still can't fathom it. Does Palmer get kicked, does he slip, does he go to ground hoping for a foul, does he kick himself? No idea.

I agree that they are both culpable, for different reasons, but to say that either one of them has relegated us is nonsense.
