No. Not really sure how you arrived at that conclusion?

I just said I'd be happy if away days became a thing of the past. I don't have the power to enforce it, don't worry.

I never said you could enforce it. You didn't either, you said you wish someone made that decision. The people who can make that happen are the government. Saying you'd rather they didn't happen anymore, instead of saying you wish the decision was made to stop it happening, are two very different things

I didn't wish anything? I said I'd be happy if away days were no longer a thing.

The official club coaches don’t stop. Only for a driver break at services.
    There are choices.
The rest of us are independents. We all have to liaise with the police. Prior to travel. Eg stop off points allowable.
The biggest issue by far comes from fans barred from travelling with coaches. Using trains as their main mode of transport.

The point you are making doesn’t stand though. You have the choice to go or not. As you did up to 4 yrs ago.

Take cricket for example. It's not a 2 hour game. It's mainly an all day spectacle. Which your allowed to drink at. So people adjust accordingly.

When rammed on a coach, you don't get much choice but to wallop a couple down. Quick one in ground. Another quick one at half time.

Quick drinking affects you quicker and worse.

    Cricket, take ya time.

Anything football is all pushed and rushed.

Maybe separate drinking coaches and teetotal coaches for example.

Just cos some folk don't drink, for others it's the only day of the week they may get to and spend it with mates.

Different cultures. And I'd rather both be catered for.

And I've hardly ever drank at a game, cos I'm always the bleeding driver.

Yes, I'm sure you're right about that, being less than twenty miles apart. During my Gloucester days FGR were a run of the mill non-league side, along with Gloucester, while I saw Cheltenham rise up the pyramid into the football league. I couldn't believe it when we got relegated and faced Town twice, both of which I saw. I travelled up to Oakwell on one of their supporters coaches for a disappointing 1-1 draw then saw us crush them at Whaddon Road 3-1, their manager drooling about the quality we had up front (Dyer and Sheron).

As for the "El Glosico" match though I was in an "enormous crowd" (3,000) one Saturday at Meadow Park for an FA Cup match between City and the noisy neighbours up the A40. The atmosphere was electric throughout and the home side won the match in style, which was quite an achievement as they were at least one level below them in the pyramid. I took along a little group of RAF mates (all of us at Innsworth) and they were all impressed by the quality on show. City drew at Ninian Park in the next round and, again, drew a big crowd for the replay. Sadly Cardiff won the replay but it was another great occasion in Gloucester City's history. They looked really good at that time with former Villa man Brian Godfrey running the club but they lost their way in the coming seasons and are still at the same level.

I did enjoy watching both Glos and Chelt at that time though but, unfortunately, never got to The Lawn to see FGR. Maybe next season IF I can get a ticket :)

Some cricket is a lot shorter though (the T20) and I've seen plenty at Yorkshire matches spending a good part of the match going below the stands to get beer supplies. Never a hint of trouble though, even though the stewards always try to break up the "beer snake" antics on the Western Terrace. Don't see the harm myself but I prefer to sit somewhere else.

Is it compulsory then to "wallop a couple down" when travelling by coach to a match? Ok, if you say so. I would never travel on a bus to a match so I wouldn't know.

I've never understood it either. Obviously it's up to each individual what they choose to do... up until it starting to affect other people.

    No it isn't.

But by the same token, those that don't want to drink shouldn't frown upon those who responsibly only have a couple etc.

It's almost as if you either have none or have to be considered an alcoholic and nothing in between.

As usual it's the ones who can't handle it do the job of labeling anyone with a pint in their hand as a hooligan. It simply isn't the case.

We could try something else. Is it compulsory to take a flask or a pork pie. Can't anyone do without for a couple of hours.

It's what people do. So what's the harm in a couple of pints.

Tell that to the SPL clubs who rely on big followings from Rangers and Celtic.

Dear Barnsley Fans, I have not lived in the Tarn since 1984, but loved to see the reds play where I lived, ie, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Yeovil and London and visit the surrounding area away teams. You do have to live in the Tarn to be an away Reds supporter. One of the things I liked at the away matched was listening to my home accent and dialect.
I hate being shepperded by the local police to the away grounds, as it causes more problems than it solves.

Thought away fans who travelled on coaches had to drink 10 miles away from town that they are visiting
