Boris Johnson has been criticised for comparing the struggle of Ukrainians fighting the Russian invasion to British people voting for Brexit. In his speech to the Conservative spring conference in Blackpool, Johnson said it is the “instinct of the people of this country, like the people of Ukraine to choose freedom”, with the Brexit vote a “famous recent example”. The comparison was condemned by Tory peer Lord Barwell, who pointed out Ukraine is seeking to join the EU. Truly a national embarrassment.
The man is a global embarrassment. Pisses me off that me and my family share a world with that odious thing.
I’m more shocked that he’s still being taken seriously on whatever he says . The blokes a liar , racist , and charlatan .
President Zelensky of Ukraine was a comedian, popular on Ukrainian TV In this horrid war he has proved to be inspirational to his beleaguered forces, has addressed the leadership of the West in their own parliaments, has shown the empathy, humility and determination to keep his country alive in the brutal turmoil of slaughter which they face alone. Truly a magnificent leader and no wonder the Ukrainians fight on. Whilst the UK still has a pathetic comedian This is a very poignant quote from Zelensky I do not want my pictures in your offices The president is not an icon, an idol, or a portrait Hang your kid's photos instead, and look at them each time you make a decision Makes Johnson look like the corrupt clueless bumbling serial liar and adulterer that he really is
Avoiding expletives and trying to be subjective. IMO, the comparison was, ill judged, embarrassing, divisive, offensive, and another example of demonstrating a total lack statesmanship and leadership in a time of international crisis, and completely undermining any credibility he might have had in influencing policy decisions within the International community. As gaffes go, this is up there with the biggest! To paraphrase an old joke...'Boris Johnson often sits and thinks. Mostly sits' EDIT: Does he actually have a speechwriter or 'run the content by' anyone, or does he do a Putin and 'go it alone' . If the former, did anyone other than BoJo think that was a good idea to include it in the speech?
The recent manoeuvring to somehow appear like he’s doing something in this fight against Putin has been nothing short of pathetic. Having said that, he’s a distant second to Rees-Mogg in the “person I’d like to fall off some scaffolding” stakes.
not even bothered tbh, what with the car thing in Belgium, P&O and Ukraine itself, there’s enough to get wound up about than what that idiot spouts.
Even on the Eve of Russias invasion of Ukraine and despite the warnings with Tanks and Artillery for weeks a stones throw from Ukraine’s border . This excuse of a Prime Minister and his cronies went to a luxury party fundraiser hosted by Putin loving lovely people!!
Apparently he's been uninvited to an EU meeting due to his comment. Our standing in the world is now on a par with Gambia....
So when EU and NATO go to war with Russia they won't need our soldiers, sailors and airmen to take the lead. Plus no one will want anything to do with us or want to come here. Let other countries try and sort out the world's problems for a while. Perhaps the government will be able to look after us and try and run the country accordingly. If Scotland still wants to go let them. They'll soon run out of money trying to keep their NHS running. Some good came out of it then.
1. NATO and the EU won't go to war with Russia, it they can't otherwise we're all done for. They are using diplomacy and economic measures, the UK's diplomacy is now in the hands of Dim Lizzy Truss and we have the economic clout of a dishcloth. 2. This government will never look after us and run the country in a fit manner, they are criminals who raided the country's wealth under cover of a pandemic (still not seen any benefits from Dido Harding's £37 BILLION Test Track and Trace, I wonder where that cash went?). 3. Scotland is a separate issue but has been influenced by this excuse for a government and PM and will probably leave the UK now. They might have financial problems but they'll join the EU and the EU will see them right. 4. I don't think anyone has yet identified any good that has come out of "it".
