Always hope and results always go a bit weird near the end of the season. But we will need wins, especially against boro and Reading.

True, but we sold George Moncur when we had Potts, Brown, Bahre, McGeehan and Mowatt. I can't see us selling Kane if we end up selling Styles, Bassi and Quina go back and Palmer and Wolfe don't sign a new contract. As I said, if we sold Kane we'd have to replace like-for-like without a doubt. It would be pointless, and we'd probably get 1 million tops (Kane is a lot less 'profitable' than Styles, Helik, Woodrow etc) which would need to be reinvested in a replacement anyway. I think if we go down, Helik and Styles will go, possibly Woodrow. We will probably make some money on them and reinvest some of it. Selling Kane on top would be pointless, unless he wants to move back South and Matty Wolfe is retained and we have someone lined up with the Styles money if he goes. We're not just going to sell everyone and not replace them, we've never done that. It would be football league suicide.

I feel bad because I keep talking as if league 1 is a foregone conclusion in this thread - I still believe!

I agree on the fire sale. I think any player who commands anything like a decent fee will be gone.
Collins, Anderson, Helik, Styles, Morris, Woodrow and possibly Brittain should all attract bids.
That lot should bring in around £8-9 million, which would come close to making up the loss of income through relegation and the loan repayment to the EFL.

We'd have one very weak squad left though, even for L1, so we'd need some pretty shrewd recruitment with hardly any cash.
Much of this could be avoided of course if the miracle happens and we somehow stay up......

It depends how much money needs to be brought in. There's some suggestion on here that we would need to bring 9m in. If we can get 7 figures for Kane, after any sell on to Liverpool, then they'll probably take it and hope that the step down works for Benson, and we can re-sign Wolfe and maybe pick up another free to play there, as well as Ackroyd.
I never feel very confident about us in any six pointers. So going to the Reading game more in hope than expectation. It's the away games that are the concern. It's unlikely that we'll win all 4 home games, we'll need a minimum of 4 points from away games. We've only got 7 so far all season away from home.

If we sell all of those players, can we keep Walton, Williams, Kitching, Hondermarck, Wolfe, Benson, Kane, Iseka, Adeboyejo. With one or two graduating from the u23s, and properly targeted use of data for new signings, along with a more stable pre-season in terms of backroom staff, we could have a mid-table side that may push for top 6 with a fair wind.

I guess that list allows for us not taking up options on contracts for Halme and Oduor?
Both ought to be good enough for L1 but Halme's injury problems would make that an easy decision.

We'd need around 8 new signings and with little or no cash that would need some very shrewd recruitment.
Just keep Paul Conway out of things......

I am not so sure about Chaplin , he has made little or no impact at Ipswich in a division lower although I do agree about his potential replacements who came in have been a let down .

I'd forgotten about Odour. There's him and numerous others with a year left I think (Thomas, Aitchison, Schmidt etc...) It would be up to the coaching staff to make a call on them, it might be feasible to find a buyer for any not in plans while they're in their last year.

Not sure about Halme. If his salary is reasonable enough, then I'd extend.

When have this board ever replaced a sale with a like for like replacement? When have this board ever backed away from committing football suicide? You have far too much faith in the board at Barnsley FC having any footballing sense at all.

At the end of the season, Palmer, Adeboyejo, Miller, Hondermack, Wolfe and Thompson are out of contract. So is Halme, but we have an option for another year.

Then we've Woodrow, Helik, Walton, Oduor, Moon, Thomas, Christie-Davies, Aitchison and Marsh who have another year left. With Schmidt, Morris, Brittain, Williams, Collins, Styles, Andersen out of contract in a year but we've an extra year option.

Halme is more than good enough for L1 but his injury record is shocking.
Aitchison may be worth giving a go to but Thomas and Schmidt can't even get game time at a lower level so I'd definitely offload them.
We've also forgot about Moon but on evidence so far I really don't rate him.

I'd give Moon a chance to be honest. His season has disintegrated as it's gone on, but he's tried to make the step up in horrific circumstances given the state of the team, not helped by being shifted from pillar to post positionally. Think he deserves a chance at League 1 level, with a proper pre season behind him

I know I'm in the minority but I still think Moon can become a good player. Unfortunately he's just not ready yet and has been cruelly exposed by a) lack of depth in the squad which has meant he's closer to the first team than he should be right now imo and b) some poor management decisions. Imo even at L1 he should be gradually introduced into a stable and relatively comfortable team (in terms of results and league position) and play alongside someone who can talk him through the game. Nurtured properly I think there's a player in there but he done badly I think he may struggle again.

We might, we probably won't, but we might. But even if we do, we'll still be in a position where a rebuilding job is needed I think.

I'm just talking hypothetically in response to others hypothetically suggesting we will get rid of Collins, Anderson, Helik, Styles, Palmer, Wolfe, Woodrow and Morris, along with Quina, Bassi, Vita and Gomes exiting and have a double relegation. We have never had so many leave in one go with these owners and I think if we do and a bid comes in for Kane that we accept, we would absolutely have to get a replacement for him. I haven't said the board have always done like for like, but when Bradshaw left we got Woodrow, Pinnock and Lindsey left and we got Anderson and Sibbick, Davies left and we got Collins. Jackson left, we got Helik. I don't like the board, but I wouldn't say their recruitment is as you suggest. We have lost players like Cavare and signed Brittain, we lost Keiffer Moore and have signed players like Morris. Our loan signings this year have been a breath of fresh air. I just don't think we will go down again if we are in league 1 next year. To reiterate, I'm not a 'board apologist'; I don't like them. I don't think they are good for this football club. I don't like how they are as people (except Khaled, and not including Nareev, for reasons I won't specify). But I'm a BFC apologist if you like, I believe we have a great club with good people behind the scenes. I believe things will be okay, and I don't think we will sink like a stone and end up in the northern counties east league before the decade is out.

Yes be honest we have all seen Odour , Thomas & Schmidt in a reds shirt & will probably arrived at our own thoughts on their futures, however Aitchison is slightly different , he has only ever been out on loan but he has had some excellent reports on his performances , he has scored I believe 7 goals & has numerous assists playing behind the strikers at Forest Green who will be in the same division as us next season , they are on Sky tonight & I intend watching to see how he plays as I cannot see any sense in sending him away for his development & then not using it for the benefit for us , if it is to be believed that he is a talented lad then we want him back here & competing for a starting birth next season.

Indeed. Hence my comments about not liking this board.
