Mr R Glavin esq. Finest player I've seen at Oakwell! Hard to explain the buzz when he got the ball! Feel privileged to have witnessed it! Also our very own Bury/Budapest Baggio And a Mr Q Tarantino
Happy Birthday Ronnie, far and away my favourite player in my 53 years watching the Reds, a great pleasure to interview him for the BFC Heritage Project, less of a pleasure to discover that we both had the same heart condition! That surge of excitement and crowd noise when he was one on one with a keeper will never be forgotten.
Happy Birthday to the best Barnsley player I have ever had the pleasure of watching, Mr Ronnie Glavin.
By far and away the finest footballer Barnsley fc have had in my time watching them, happy birthday King Ronnie.
It’s strange to think, given current club policy, that Ronnie was 28 when Allan Clarke brought him down from Celtic. He seemed a bit over weight as well and early performances reflected his need to settle into his new environment. What an impact he made though! Soon became a fan’s favourite, and still is after all this time. Happy birthday Ronnie.
Standing on the Leppings lane terrace wondering why Glav was only the sub, it was 0-0 and neither side looked remotely like scoring when at last on he comes and the piggies were singing rude songs about him. He gets the ball on the left and smoothly accelerates past a statuesque defender and coolly slots the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner. I think that will always be my fondest memory of Glav.
Fantastic player that he was, for me signing him was a real statement and change of direction from the lower leagues of the 70’s back to where we belong. He signed around the time we signed Hunter and all of a sudden we had two ex-England internationals and a recently capped Scottish international in our squad which was a massive difference to what we had been watching just a year before.
Ditto!!! Absolute legend... got to interview him along with the rest of the 80/81 promotion team, courtesy of Macca for my Social Studies project, and he was a top lad off the pitch too!
