It’s embarrassing. 2 young girls serving a quarter of the east stand. Queue back to the toilets as the second half was starting. It’s a shambles

It should be pointed out that this has been a problem for several seasons & isn’t a Covid issue. No ones convincing me that there isn’t plenty of teenagers who’d be happy to get a couple of hours pay & to see some of the match as well. There were loads wanting to do it when I was at college age.

If no one is convincing you there’s a national, even global, issue with recruitment an staff in hospitality and events then the conversation is pretty much over as a discussion right?

It’s nowhere near a fun job to do, and by watching some of the match do you mean the last 30 minutes? I’m not sure that’s much a perk these days. When we’re you college age? Because attitudes by generation have changed ten fold.

You're right there is but when's the last time we advertised for staff to fill these roles?

Edit: actually I searched the website and it was advertised at the beginning of February with no details on pay or on how many hours it is or anything. It just says you might be working in the concourses, in a bar or in hospitality for an unknown number of hours on unspecified days at an unspecified rate of pay. I can't work out why nobody applies...

I’ve no idea about that to be honest. Since becoming a dad I don’t tend to go to many events outside of football but how longs this global issue been going on?

Because the issues with staffing at Oakwell seem to directly correlate with the new owners taking over from the Cryne’s.

Having said that I’ve been to a concert & a boxing event that were both packed & been able to get drinks within a few minutes yet it takes 20 at Oakwell. And that was before the main event when there’s a mad rush for the bar.

I can’t help you if you’re not aware of Brexit and Covid putting hospitality and events under serious strain the last 12 months.

It’s not the sole reason for issues with match day service at Oakwell, but to dismiss it as not a valid factor feels pretty naive and too dismissive. I don’t tend to experience much better service away from Oakwell, and when I do it’s because there’s been a few hundred there rather than a few thousand.

The overall experience at an arena, in terms of the tools available to do your job and the crowd you serve, tends to be far better than football at our level as well.

I just don’t believe these are Covid / Brexit issues because they’ve been happening for several years. If it’d only happened recently I’d say great point but that’s not the case.

This is one of those perennial issues that has been going around since Ronnie was a lad.

The stall behind the family stand is appalling . Still queuing yesterday 15 minutes into the 2nd half . I could build a brand kiosk for 20 grand in the wasted space further along the concourse
