Ah yes, such a wonderful gesture from the club to freeze prices given the fantastic season we've had!
Curious to see if they are going with early bird and ramping the pice up for people who don't purchase early. Given the ownership can't be bothered to even address the fans i don't even feel torn about my decision currently.
That’s next year’s comms, when we’re told we’ve have an amazing season, retaining our League 1 status on the final day
Are we gonna get an apology from Conway? Are we gonna get explanations about a number of issues surrounding off & on field matters? Doubt it, so that’s me out.
I'm not sticking up for our owners but it must be very very difficult for them to put any kind of positivity on sales of season tickets for next season. They have managed from a highly successful season to follow that up by making the worse kind of managerial decisions for a long long time....they have also managed to diserfranchise a large amount of the very people who pay the wages...the fans. I'm sure they ARE bothered but seems it is more important to them to build their portfolio of clubs and sell more and more players for profit rather than concentrate on what we generally want.....a fairly successful team who keep financially viable.
As the energy crunch worsens, I suspect price will be a factor for some people, so at least capping the price is something. I mean, it's likely going to be for an inferior product at a lower division, so technically, it's a price increase, but we'll park that for now. The fundamental issue is not one of price. It's a mixture of a trust lost combined with excessive rate of change, mostly not for the better. The comms don't address those issues, nor can they. Trust can only be regained by a liberal dose of humble pie (not mansfield reds pie though!) and a change of tack, but first and foremost the ownership having the balls to face the music and actually talk to the people it demands money from.
Totally non-plussed they could have dropped £100 or gone up £100 my mind was made up months ago, I’m out
That’s the problem. If they want people to buy they really need to build some bridges. Having the balls to admit their mistakes and intentions to put things right would be a start. Not holding my breath.
What makes me laugh, not so much on here but across different social platforms, is the pitchforks and lanterns that were being sharpened and warmed up before any announcement on season tickets came. Don't get me wrong. I understand anyone who might not want to renew, doesn't fancy League One, doesn't fancy the match day experience, and who doesn't fancy the owners based on actions. But the club can hardly stop behaving like the business it is can it? Certain messages still need to go out, be it season tickets, match day recaps, interviews, etc. There's still thousands who will look forward to next season with as much hope and enthusiasm as this one. If, and I'm still saying if, we get relegated, they'll be those who criticise ticket announcements and match day details for the games that come after. It's a really, really bizarre stance to take and must be mentally exhausting having that kind of negative view on life and football.
The reality for me personally is that if the 80%‘owners’ were to move on, or perhaps even indicate a significant move away from the futility of their ‘model’ (and explain the £750K), I’d definitely be back. As it is, my season ticket has been unused since October. There is obviously little point in renewing just to have my ticket sitting on a shelf gathering dust.
I'm 70:30, maybe more, against renewing for the first time in 30+ years. However, the 30% will become 0% at a stroke if they make the early bird deadline 30th April or some other point before the end of May. I've taken a job with substantially lower salary in order to live near a dying parent and I (suspect like many others) need to see how all these April price hikes and taxes feed through in my April pay and costs. At the very least I know I'd need some of my April and May (28th) wages to afford to renew. I'm not interested in any loans, interest free or not. For me it's about knowing I'm able to afford the ticket in the new mega inflationary context we're in. I'm already saddled with an interest free loan from Sunak that I don't want and don't know whether I'll ever be able to afford to pay back. The option of an interest bearing loan just disgusts me given that we are owned by various fat cat capital financiers. And there's no way I'm ever paying the higher price after early bird. Early bird price deadline should be 31st May at the earliest in order that people have a couple of pay slips to play with. That's still the same accounting year too.
Having a price freeze isn't going to lead to a sold out Oakwell when cost of living keeps rising and we've had a really poor season and have owners we want gone. Is it that difficult to be brave and innovative for one by having the price linked to sales? For example the club want to make £10 in season ticket sales but only 1 person buys a season ticket so they get charged a tenner. But if 10 people buy one everyone is charged a quid. They could have said price freeze BUT if x amount of people buy one it goes down to whatever amount and if even more buy it goes down lower still to etc so the club still get however much money they want in season ticket sales BUT how low fans pay is down to how many get one.
