I get that, and even with competent decision making, it would be a matter of time before it caught up with us, similar to Burnley in the PL I guess. But we should really be going into next season confident of a comfortable mid table Championship finish.

We shouldn't be happy at all about being in league one.
If we don't want to go as high as possible, no point competing.
I'm not looking forward to league one at all.
The club is being slowly killed off and accepting league one as our level says it all.
    Just my opinion anyway

Agreed. This season has been a massive own goal.

By taking away aspiration you take away supporters’ dreams and largely render the whole thing pointless. Accepting League One as our natural level would still need the occasional season in the Championship so that we have realistic aspirations. Alternatively, we could accept the odd season in League Two and enjoy a decent season getting back to our rightful, if ultimately tedious, place. Utterly depressing, if ultimately realistic.

I blame my Dad. I was quite content watching Arsenal and Spurs on MOTD.

Success is expected at big clubs though. At Barnsley there's a realism. However, in recent years (barring one exception) the realism has stifled the club trying to move forward.

Once its mathematically certain, we have to accept we are a league 1 club. Because that's where we'll be. It can hurt, or be a bit meh, but ultimately we have to take it on the chin, because that's where we are and we can't do a single thing to change it on opening day.

But once we're there, the fans will hope and dream for promotion, and rightly so. But at the same time, we have to do the right things well, or we could be headed for league 2.

There are plenty of names, some even bigger than ours who have gone through the leagues and believed they should be in a higher place than what they were.

Last season we almost got promoted to the premier league. Everyone giving up after one bad season is ridiculous.

And that’s exactly why I worry about the ownership. Doing the right things well seems beyond them as things stand. Or doing the right things at all.

The different e being Luton and Coventry didn't use the 'moneyball model' run by a muddle headed CEO and board, who don't have an interest in 6+ other clubs spread throughout Europe and who were prepared to sell anything that moved at a rock bottom price.

I think we’ll be a div 1 club for some time but i don’t accept that’s our level at all .
This seasons been a nightmare and it’s been made by incompetence rather than being found out because we’re punching above our weight .
There’s no reason given our fan base or even budget that we can’t stay in the Championship and at times compete for a playoff place .
Yes we need to be better run and revert back to a time when we could uncover a special player etc but it could be done .
I’ll never accept a lower league position as our default and that’s even in the Chsmpipnship .

Probably right about being in league 1 as many players will leave to cover a drop in income(where have I heard that before) and one thing is a cert-this board wont put any of their own money into the club, that has been apparent for a few years now(They are better at taking money out of the club)

i always respect what you say Marlon but, other than the occasional (very) promotion push in the Championship what period of our history has ever seen us as a consistent top half of the table club at this level? There's never been one. Aspiration is fine but that's all it will remain unless things dramatically change.
