PRESTON FIXTURE RESCHEDULED Fixture News Our final home Sky Bet Championship clash of the 21/22 season will now kick-off at an earlier time on Saturday 30 April. Continue reading on the official site...
What a load of ******! Not achievable to attend 3pm kick off safely?? Best shut the club down then if this is the case
What would happen if it was the last match of the season I wonder? Given that all games have to be played at the same time?
In plain English, exactly what has gone off, what are the exact reasons why that the kick off has to be moved to dinnertime for the final home game ? I'm not too good at unravelling riddles on the BFC official statement so instead had to get the proper reasons from the Preston FC official pages. You cannot make this sh*t up South Yorkshire Police strike again worried about 50 idiots in a crowd of probably 14,000, they are useless
The ‘official statement’ is released by both clubs. I suspect they are both being a bit diplomatic here in showing their disappointment of SYP’s and whoever else’s decision it is for the earlier KO
The statement on the Preston website is less vague, the first part is copied below. SYP strike again. The South Yorkshire Police have informed Barnsley Football Club, the EFL and ourselves that they will not authorise a 3pm kick-off for our fixture at Oakwell on 30th April 2022. Both football clubs and the EFL have made numerous representations to the police explaining that there is no history of crowd disorder between the two clubs and as it is our designated Gentry Day it is a day of both remembrance and celebration not a day when we expect any disturbance. Despite our best efforts, the South Yorkshire Police have threatened the withdrawal of Barnsley’s safety certificate unless the kick off time is brought forward to 12.30pm on that day.
And here's me thinking it has been EFL policy for God knows how long that all final games must kick off at the same time Which by the way has actually generally been a lunch time kick off
I make that just 10 of our home games has kicked off at 3 pm in a Saturday afternoon this season, with just 1 of the last 7.
Other derbies take place at 3 pm. It's a mystery to me why we cant, even allowing for the fact we 're near the town centre.
In that case, both clubs refuse early kick off. Give each team a point. We are down, Preston not going anywhere. And then mobilise a massive party inviting Preston fans over for a knees up in town for the afternoon. Tell SYP to shove their match fees and certificate. Would be nice to stand up to them in a totally different way. (Yeah I say it in jest, but in the style of Keegan, I would love it)
I know this is nothing to do with the club and they can't be apportioned any blame for this decision but like other things out of their hands such as the walk from the town centre, this just adds to the miserable experience of attending matches at the moment.
I'd say we get booted and suited up, just like them. Be like a scene from the 50s. Top hats and the works
