i’d agree the lack of any defined rest time is one of the worst things about modern society. Especially with on line stores there is no need for shops to open every single day. As for the OP I agree. We should keep the holidays but make them non religious as we are a secular nation these days.
Which ones? Can’t say I’ve noticed. Have to say, if I went to shop and it was shut for ‘half day’, I wouldn’t bother going back again.
Probably just nostalgia but I like quieter times, there's ample time to go shopping the rest of the week. Most hairdressers are closed Sunday/Monday and we cope. I never shop in bank holidays on principle.
Rational arguments don't usually work on religious people. Otherwise there would be no religious people.
i genuinely see religious people as exhibiting some of the classic systems of mental health issues. They literally worship someone that no one can see and ‘talk’ to invisible ‘gods’. I know they don’t see that and I’m not saying I am right and they are wrong it’s just the way I see it.
I find religion the weirdest most incomprehensible thing ever. My mind just can’t compute it. To me it is literally as valid as believing in unicorns, or the tooth fairy. It blows my tiny mind, trying to figure out how it’s still such a relevant force. I get how it potentially could be, for people with no access to information. I get why it might have been more accessible during early civilisation. I genuinely get why paganism and gods of natural forces would have emerged. But for educated, informed people to still accept this, in 2022. Just blows my mind.
they can explain it. They just can’t agree on an explanation. The lack of explanation isn’t the issue. Just like religion doesn’t explain it and offers many explanations._ Not criticising anyone for being religious. Though the daft genres of religion always baffle me. Hindu, Christian or whatever you are ultimately worshipping the same thing in different ways.
The God of the gaps argument. If that's where you want to put a God then thats fine but as scientific knowledge increases God becomes a ever receding force. Further Science constantly questions findings and trys to disprove them. Science adjusts it's views based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved.
Indoctrination at young age is powerful weapon. I know some people "shop around" for a religion but most are the same religion as their parents. Couple this with the comfort people take from "believing" they will see loved ones again. The want/need to believe is so strong that it will override sensible thoughts. I often flip this and wonder why so many religious people are sad at funerals? If they truly believe what's to be upset about?
