I think last summer was the worst window we have ever seen. No data followed by signing players like oulare and iseka sold to us by agents. And even benson who played most of his games on loan at grimsby or in the burnley u23s.
I think moving forward if the club have any sense at all i would be signing players using data again and be looking at playet on the up rather than on the way down. Players from league one, two and non league who are doing well at there clubs. Look at the amount of players who were once in non league and are now doing well one at the minute jarrod bowen ex Hereford player. Be a intresting summer.

It's all well and good, but if we buy from league 2 / non league, and they aren't good enough, it'll just be another stick to bash the club with. Patience is key now, and maintaining a solid core. Experience is vital, and insert youth in bit parts like we did with Romal under Val. Hopefully Kane stays, and has a good season next to Wolfe. Hopefully Khaled will realise the reason for our downfall this season and rectify it for the upcoming one. The most pivotal area is consistency with the manager/head coach. Get your target, back him, and allow people who have been at the club a number of years help integrate them

Forgive me if I've missed this answered somewhere else, but how do we know that the signings last summer weren't data driven? How do we know we had players pushed on us by agents?

The data driven approach is meant to uncover players who are undervalued based on their statistics. Without diving into individual performances, you could make the argument that all of our summer signings could have fallen into that category, Oulare included.

Depending on the style of play we adopt, I'd like to see us build a team around a midfield of Wolfe, Kane and Aitchison. Two of them have over 120 professional games under their belt now, and are both still under 24. Both have been performing out on loan, and should stand us in good stead next season when we're likely to have a rebuild job on.

I'm pretty sure it's documented that Oulare was a recommendation to Conway from an agent bud, or something like that. No clue on Iseka though. And I agree with you, Wolfe & Kane should be a cracking partnership, and I hope we do find game time for Aitchison, he's had a very good season. I do wonder if Oxford win promotion, if they'll put a bid in, similar to what we payed for Kane, and we accept it to recoup losses. But personally I'd be very happy with those 2 in the midfield

Think the one after we were promoted was worse, losing our entire defence. Still not made any profit on any them to date either. All we needed was an experienced midfielder to help Palmer and Benson and we'd have been comfortable, especially in light of points deductions from Reading and Derby.

What ever system we use transfers will always be a little bit hit and miss and always will be.
If we use the up and coming model only, we wouldn’t have got Mowatt or Woodrow or Collins.

For me the issues we faced this Season is what happened in the Summer with everyone leaving on the non playing side, our whole business model is supposed to be built on continuity and yet virtually every department behind the scenes was affected by leavers, that doesn’t allow continuity.

I read an article yesterday where our old mate Mr Joseph Barton is now very keen to take Luke Thomas on a permanent contract when his loan spell is up. I know the lad was less than popular on the bbs but I can’t help thinking that he would be good for us in league one. He still has a year left on his Barnsley contract

I vaguely recall something like that about Oulare. Cole seems a typical spreadsheet signing. The club have often been criticised for sticking too rigidly with the data driven approach, and rightly so. I do think we need something like that though to try and reduce the risk of signing players who ultimately don't work out.

From what I've read about Aitchison, he could fill a similar role to that of Bassi/Quina now. I'd be tempted to let Benson leave on loan to try and get a bit of game time, and hopefully build a bit of confidence.

Kane and Thomas have never really seemed settled here. Thomas may well get to be in the same league living at home next season so I can't see him coming back.

I think any vaguely sensible offer from Bristol and we will bite their hand off. Can’t see them offering too much for a player we would be happy to get off the wage bill and with only a year on his contract undisclosed will be plenty (£200K? a lot less than we paid for him)

We need to go back to signing guys in the lower leagues who have proved themselves. Davis Kellior Dunn is out of contract for Oldham in the summer. 24 years old and scored 15 goals for a team that might go in to non league. I would like to think he'd be one on our radar. Elliott Moore at Oxford is one I thought we should have looked at last summer. Captain, played over 100 games for them in a period where they have had back to back decent seasons and he's only 25. They will trigger a one year contract extension to not lose him for nothing, but if Oxford don't swap places with us he'd be a good one to go for. Cole Stockton being 28 years old would be too old for our owners but he's scored 26 goals this season mainly in the league we will be in next season and he will only have a year left on his Morecambe contract.

I have for some time been pretty confident that Kane would not be with us next season and Oxford would sign him. However after seeing their record fee ever paid is £470k for Dean Windass from Aberdeen in 1998, I'm less certain, you'd like to think we'd want 3x that.

So unless a Championship club comes in for him, I think he may be back which provided his heads in the right place is obvs a good thing, or Weds may buy him just to spite us again.

Every time I see Cole Stockton smash a goal in from long range I just can’t stop think how good he would be for us. Our new SSW, 20 goals guaranteed

This is why I think the club are in a bit of a pickle. The transfer market has collapsed for all but the very best just at the time the club need to realise player values.

The trouble with.. the data.. it only seems to identify a similar type of player.. The Bassi type really. All well and good but not for L1

Cole is too old to be a spreadsheet signing isn’t he?

I don’t think we’ll be signing many players. A left back, at least one centre back possibly two with likely departures of Helik & Anderson & a back up goalie if one of Collins or Walton goes.

They’ll look to develop the young players under contract & the returning loanees.
