Head physio, a life long Barnsley fan who left, not to become Head Physio at Huddersfield, simply to be part of their physio team. That was a move that spoke volumes about the situation at Oakwell.
That was probably their plan/mantra; unfortunately, they are not very good at the implementation. "Charlaton's" or amatures, I'm not sure which.
I actually agree with some of your sentiment about the season under Val being an outlier and our job/aim of becoming a stable Championship being one that means we must over achieve. It’s difficult, but not impossible, as other sides have proven. I do massively disagree with this quoted part though. Complete negligence by the board, chaired by Conway, to let Dane leave without a replacement. It’s the root of all our failures this season and is where my line of questioning would start should Paul Conway ever speak to the fans.
The problem with the departure of Dane is that none of us have the full story. Earlier in this thread "RedHelen" took me to task about the same issue. I was about to leave to go to the match, so I did not reply, bit if I had, I would ask Do we know whether a new contract was offered? Do we known if there was a verbal indication that the offer would be accepted? Do we know how long before Dane left was the contact from Forest first made? Do we know whether Dane is welcome at Oakwell. People make up their minds about things, often with knowledge of only part of what happened. I would rather wait until I know the full story before I make up my mind. Other might be right. It might be Conway's fault. However, it might not. I have described our financial situation as the elephant in the room, and yet every poster since I made that remark has chosen to ignore it. I know finance is hard, but it is another side of the same problem. People are making their minds up without knowledge of the full facts
It's got to be Conway s fault that he didn't plan for Dane leaving. Perfectly reasonable given the circumstances to say I need you to sign a new contract by a date to allow time to source your replacement.Same goes for if he was happy to run the contract down cos Dane wasn't being the CEO he wanted.
What we do know is that Murphy was signing players and talking about contract offers in June, then was out the door shortly after. Whatever offers or verbal agreements were made, the whole situation was mismanaged
Unless Dane agreed in Jan to resign in the Summer and then didn’t for what ever reason. Don’t know if it did or did not happen but could have.
I’d like to know why did people leave in droves, usually the cause of this is either poor working conditions or lack of belief in ‘the plan’.
Spot on @Old Gimmer - the strategy is to move them on to generate more revenue! And because we enjoyed a bit of success with Struber and Ismael we became arrogant and believed we could do it again and again. Asbaghi in particular was an appalling appointment given that the alarm bells should have been loudly and KEA should've sought the security of a safer option.
Isn’t a bigger problem that we did spend so much money on players like Oulare, Leya Iseka & Benson? Whilst Luton sign the type of players we would expect us to be in for based on our recruitment over the past 7 or 8 years we take expensive gambles on players with very little / no football league experience. I remember loads of us asking last summer why we weren’t in for someone like Jordan Clark last summer. Free agent, loads of football league experience, versatile, local lad, top performer in league one, good fitness record & wouldn’t be on big wages yet Luton got him instead. I don’t think there is an elephant in the room at all. 90%+ of Barnsley fans are understanding of our financial predicament in my opinion. I very rarely see fans wanting us to spend daft money. Last summer for example almost everyone was resigned to us losing Mowatt once we got knocked out of the play offs.
We will not know with any certainty how much we did spend on those players until we send our 2021/22 Accounts to Companies House. My bet would be that it is a lot less than you think it is.
The whole set up stinks, owners buying clubs right left and centre but doing bugger all to develop them. Obsessed with a failed plan, young players and foreign managers. Showed absolutely no football nous whatsoever. They never show their faces to allow anybody a chance to question them properly. If they continue in this vein we might as well board the ground up now. But hey anybody want a season ticket?
It did, what I’m saying is he could have said for arguments sake in Jan he would sign another in June and then chose not to, we don’t know.
Dane Murphy could have stayed at Barnsley Football Club, I believe. As in I think he would have wanted to with the right offer but instead let his Visa expire and sought employment elsewhere. Do we think that he told the club this three weeks, three days, or three months before it happened? I’d guess neither of those and more likely around January. There’s absolutely no way that we weren’t aware he was leaving. By choosing not to replace him in a timely manner it means our Chairman was happy to run the CEO gauntlet for another Summer. Also means he was allowed to be in charge to deviate from the recruitment model that had served us relatively well. He chose to be in charge over the Summer therefore he shoulders the responsibility for this cluster f*** of a season. I think you’re being way too naive to suggest that the role was forced on him. This is a grown ups boardroom not a business started as a side hustle by kids in high school.
With some of the things said why would they. Some of the things said are bang out of order. '' Conman'' stuff. Why would they entertain such comments?
You blame everything on the ownership Loko the Tyke but the people within the club have got to take responsibility.
Hemsy. That’s because the majority of our failings are down to one person within that ownership group. People within the club inherited a car crash of a situation.
