For the u18s and u21s. I remember Martin Devaney asking Andy White on the main pitch at Oakwell if the media team had announced Wolfe's new deal. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2017/october/wolfeprodeal/ They played against a southern team if I remember correctly. Maybe Charlton?
OK, I've seen a lot of him coming through and take it from me he was an up and down midfielder with a knack of arriving late and scoring goals. He can obviously play as the holding midfielder and at 6ft 4 he obviously has the physique to put himself about in challenges. I just don't think he should be pigeon holed because there's more to him which you can see from his ability on the ball.
Apologies if I was OTT with the Fake news comment. Little need to be doing that. I just hope people don't go OTT with him next season like say Palmer for example this. He will have a dip at some point. Most likely he will be playing with a ballplayer next season. He will get a chance to break the lines when needed but it's okay for him to play within himself.
He'll be a very good player in the coming years. We need to enjoy him while we can as I don't think he'll be around for long. He'd be long gone by now if it wasn't for all the injury problems.
Doug's final paragraph is absolutely scathing. I think he feels the same disbelief as most of us do at what we hear from Poya in interviews.
The result has nothing to do with my post or the poor quality journalism.. There's a clear statement that Wolfe is a defensive midfielder and that is misleading & inaccurate, but the author is wanting to build a case for the substitution being negative. When it comes to the result, there'll be different views on that, but my opinion is that it was mostly about our inability to take chances. We've had 19 shots in both of the last 2 matches & very few teams in the Championship have matched that (I think only Fulham had more shots on Friday, for example). The chances have been created, but not converted and I don't think it's right to say Poya is responsible for that. At the same time, all these losses hurt like hell & I do get why some people will gravitate to scapegoating Poya. No problem with that & I just see it differently.
I'm not a football manager. I'm not even good at football manager on the PC. I once won the league with Sunderland, but I did have Alessandro Del Piero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Andrei Arshavin as a front 3. I've not played the game at any level. I couldn't even get in my school team. I have played just two 11 a side matches in my life, and that was for charity. I missed a free header at the far post. I have a few 6 a side titles to my name, most prestigiously, Leeds goals Wednesday night Championship champions winter 2014. And yet, 4 home games in a row, I've called the substitutions about 15 minutes before Poya has made them. I think at 55 minutes on Monday, I said we should bring Wolfe on for Palmer, with the score still at 1-0. I mean even then it was 55 minutes too late, but still, its so blatantly obvious what needs to happen. Why can't Poya see it? That's why, for me, he's not the man for the job.
Not sure if you intended it, but I'm pretty sure you've just landed yourself on the shortlist for next Head Coach. The downside is that you're presumably English, so will lose out to a similar CV from a Mainland European country.
He brought Wolfe on to win the ball, he said as much himself. That one wasn't so much a negative sub to make, it was a like for like, but Wolfe's current role in the first team squad is to be a defensive midfielder. But, he either thought we needed an extra striker on to win the game, in which case he should've made the third change sooner. Or he didn't, in which case, he shouldn't have made the change at all. These are must win games, and he's being conservative in his approach during them. Ultimately, he will be judged in results. And since the last win, the results have been bad enough to counter any arguments about how bad a situation he inherited. 2 points out of 15, when we'd done so much to get within touching distance of 21st place is unacceptable.
Just in case it's got lost during the Wolfe discussion, but I'll quote it again. "He also said he wanted to delay bringing on an extra striker, in this case Victor Adeboyejo for Styles, until the final ten minutes when he felt Peterborough were less likely to hit them on the break" Our Head Coach said those words. Not Doug. So don't blame the reporting. And it's nothing to do with the position of Wolfe. At 2-0 down, our current Head Coach gave that as his reasoning for not making an attacking change. Poya and Khaled can get in the bin.
I'm not scapegoating anybody he's just one of the problems at Oakwell and not even the biggest one. The problems start in the Boardroom cascade down via the CEO, Recruitment team, Head coach and end up on the pitch.
Do you not think Loko The Tyke that the recruitments been a problem for a while. Not in terms of player quality but the players, they bring in. For example. No left-back last season, no DM, went into the season with problems upfront last season. But brought in Herbie Kane who was like Mowatt. The club also had Styles for that role who should have been given the chance to develop and layer behind the captain. Let Bree go to Luton and went for a poorer player in Brittain. Who's to blame for the awful signing of Cole?
by let go I mean didn't fight for him/ or fight hard enough. I meant when he signed for Luton. whom he signed for on 1st September 2020.
