Explains a lot - sounds very much like he was brought in with relegation expected. I wondered on here a while back whether a League 1 player factory might not be more profitable (or at least less risky) than a Championship one. The summer might give us a clue as to whether the owners feel the same.
Doesn't make sense though because we'd have to sell 7/8 million quids worth of players every season to make up for lost tv rights from not being in championship. Failed system if so.
Hence my realist comment. If you want to look into his comments a little deeper. It's obvious if that's what the owners intend they're going to have to inject some capital because on that showing the squad isn't good enough. Also they aren't going to make the sales required. Admin?
I'm definitely not arguing that it's a failed system! But that's the risk calculation, I guess. If all you want is a steady few million a year then doing well in League 1 is probably the best way to do it - the summer we last came up has probably been our most profitable in terms of player trading. The money required to do well in the Championship makes it a much riskier play. Let's not forget that by their standards last season was a failure.
It wasn't doing the impossible Poya. Not even close. If you were my manager I would have approached our CEO and stated, categorically, that either you go or I go. You are without use. I have use.
I don't blame him. He was admittedly passionless & useless. Looks out of his depth, which he clearly is. A bit like the people that appointed him as a cheap option. Warnock would have taken it. In his own words. Won't be renewing & hope someone can get PMG out as they are the real problem. I may go to the Preston game to show my distain, but will probably only turn up 5 minutes before the end. I've given the club support since 74/75 & I cannot give this shower any more of my money. They are destroying everything I loved about my football team. Good luck to you all that feel differently.
I said from the start he didn't really speak as though avoiding the drop was the be all and end all and he thought his job was safe. Problem is, players have got worse under him and Schopp so even as a coach brought in to get the best out of young players to sell at a profit he'll fail.
Tonight's performance was pathetic. We are sunk on the lowest points we've ever got, even when it was 2 points for a win!
Wouldn’t say he’s a scapegoat. He’s turned out to be one of a number of problems at the club. He wasted our good form before the international break by believing we could sit back and counter attack, when defending a one goal lead. His comments after the Reading game were the last straw for me. I think we need to go back to what went well for us before. Find a coach that has done well by playing a high pressing game. Even if it’s someone coaching at academy level within city group. I suspect Poya will ultimately do well. But he will need a squad with a solid group of senior players and experience throughout the team for the style he wants to play. Just not the right fit for us, or the circumstances we were in when he took the job, when we needed a firefighter.
I don’t know whether he genuinely means what he’s saying or he’s trying to cover his back but if he honestly thinks it was an almost impossible task of keeping us up when he took over he’s even worse than I thought.
Don't think they would put us in admin due their reputation taking a massive hit. Instead I think Chien and Conman's backers will look for a quick sale to minimise any losses with a renewed focus on their other clubs!
