Apologies if this has been covered at all recently, but has anyone had their council tax rebate payment yet?

I'm band A but not had anything yet.

Have you applied or do you pay by DD? Think if you pay by Direct debit you'll get it by the end of the month.

I'm guessing they're waiting for me to pay my first instalment by DD before sending me the rebate... which was today.

Yes I've had a letter but I haven't applied yet . If prices go up yet again in August then the £150 will barely scrape 2 weeks of energy during the winter months .......

Apparently some councils are saying it might be a few months. Bet they'll wait as long as possible to get the interest before paying out.

Interest rates are at an all time low, they'll not be making much. And anyway, we'd be taking a month tops.

Ironically it's those interest rates they need to raise ! Unfortunately they refloated the economy on cheap money post 2008 hence the west's current conundrum .

Thanks. I pay by direct debit so should just sit tight? I know it's only £150, but that could really help at the moment. Seems like they're not in much of a rush to get it paid out.

It says on the Barnsley council website
That it will be paid by the end of April(this week)
If you pay by Direct debit
    So Friday at the latest

If you have been paid out today
It will show up around 3.30pm on peoples bank statements

The rebate restricted to Council Tax band D or below is a pretty arbitrary cut off. The banding date back to 1990, the upper limit then was £88000 meaning that many Barnsley properties will fall into the rebate whereas many of us in similar sized houses in Oxfordshire will not be eligible. Is this to support Tory voters in “Red Wall” seats?

Pissing myself at the idea of a Tory policy deliberately favouring the North.

But anyway, surely the houses in Oxfordshire being worth substantially more is justification for the difference.

Just saying that the way of qualifying for the rebate is really arbitrary. Surely there is a more equitable way? After all HMRC has the details of how much income tax people pay. Couldn't something have been done along the lines of those on lower incomes?

BTW Is it a coincidence that the rebate will be paid a week before the local elections??????

The entire "Right to Buy" scheme from the 1980s was to move people from social housing (Labour voters) to home owners (Conservative voting), and as recently as the coalition Cameron was opposed to building social housing as it made more Labour voters.

And besides, South Oxfordshire has no overall control with LibDems having the most councilors. As punishment, your area will receive less central government funding...
