I know this is all ifs, buts and maybes but just thought I'd share my opinion on the players and what positions we need to be looking at and who I think will be sold. I've put down each players contract end date ( correct me if any are wrong ): GK: Walton ( 2023 ) / Jinadu ( 2023 ) RB: Brittain ( 2023 ) / Williams ( 2023 ) CB: Kitching ( 2025 ) / Moon ( 2023 ) LB: Oduor ( 2023 ) CM: Benson ( 2025 ) / Kane (2024 ) / Wolfe ( 2024 ) / ICD ( 2023 ) / Hondermarck ( 2023 ) Wing: Thomas ( 2023 ) / Aitchison ( 2023 ) ST: Cole ( 2024 ) / Leya Iseka ( 2025 ) / Schmidt ( 2023 ) / Marsh ( 2023 ) Release: Halme / Palmer / Adeboyejo / Miller Most likely to be sold: Collins / Andersen / Helik / Styles / Morris / Woodrow Questionable ? Brittain / Kane / ICD / Thomas / Aitchison / Leya Iseka / Schmidt Main areas to concentrate on would be: CB / LB / CM / Wing / ST So we could be looking at anywhere from say 4 - 10 signings this summer. For me, top 10 would be amazing to achieve but I reckon mid table would be a start with then top 10 the aim for the following season.
I have a feeling that Woodrow may stay, possibly Andersen too. I also reckon Vita might return. Collins, Helik, Styles and Morris will all be off I’d say. Whatever our team, we need to press more and attack a lot more than under Poya. We need a Stendel like impact right from the off.
Yes I could see the view that Woodrow and Andersen could possibly stay but the rest are certain to leave. Couldn’t agree more that the new head coach needs to have a Stendel like impact.
I think Morris might stay. I think the majority of the deficit will be covered by Collins, Styles, and Helik. If we keep the front two and Andersen in defence we're not too badly positioned. Halme probably stays as CB cover.
How can you have overlooked our big money signing from the last close season? Oulare has got to feature somewhere. Aren’t you counting on him leadership us back to the championship?
I reckon Morris will be the first to go. He seems to like the club but he doesn't reckon much to his team mates if his body language is anything to go by. Never seen a player look as frustrated with the rest of the team as he does, or give them as many ballackings. Can't see him wanting to play another season with such a poor side.
That's why I had a hissy fit the other night at his poor treatment by the club all season and at Huddersfield. (Converting him into a defender and not starting him despite 5h1t players starting in front of him). It's a shame we'll no doubt lose him for free this summer. I just hope he gets the satisfaction of telling the club to f cu k off.
If the defecit is 8 million there's absolutely no way the sale of those three is going to get anywhere near covering it.
Most of the team are out of contract at the end of next season, but we have an option to extend all but Woodrow, Helik, Walton, Thomas, Oduor, & Moon. I suspect we'll be accepting anything worthwhile for any of these. At least we have until 2025 to see the best of Benson & Leya Iseka..
I can’t see our budget sustaining Woodrow’s wages of £10k+ a week when we’ll need to strengthen the squad.
We don’t need £8m in hard cash though do we? It’s a combination of reducing the wage bill and bringing in money through transfers and commercial deals. Woodrow as an example, if you were to receive £750k for him it would be £1.25m. Then add in relegation clauses and you could be around the £3m mark already. That’s still not a positive picture, but it’s better than thinking we have to sell players to the value of £8m. I think Helik is our biggest asset. £2m fee plus c. £300k saved on wages, combined with the above, and you’re at nearly £5.5m vs. the £7/8m target
