I certainly get the admitation of Calzaghe.. Fury has proved himself to be the best around, out of arguably an indifferent crop.... but Naz?

 

He was a quite unbelievable boxer. I'd have got into boxing regardless, because I don't think there's a sport I didn't show an interest in as a young lad growing up. But I got the chance to go to a few live events as a 12-year-old or something and Naz was my first real hero of the sport. My dad was a Herol Graham fan, he disliked Naz because he was arrogant. Then I saw Calzaghe, and probably 10 years later, by chance, Fury made his debut on the Froch v Pascal card in Nottingham.

Seen plenty of boxers over the years but only those three have I massively got behind, although I did like Froch (hence 2008 in Notts) and the last few years, I've got right into the female game and I love Jonas, Marshall and Bridges etc. Not so fussed over Katie Taylor because I've seen her get beaten and still get decisions which puts me off. Same goes for the other Taylor - Josh. I'm still amazed that he's saying he won the Catterall fight.

I've never bought that one. Fury edged it, in my opinion. He destroyed him in the rematch too.

 

Fury never won that first fight, not in a million years.

I've watched it about 10 times and not once could you score it in Fury's favour.

 

We get the tube from either Wembley Central, or if that's busy, Sudbury Town. Totally different lines. Barely anyone walks that way. A doddle.

Or we did when Barnsley used to be at Wembley all the time.

 

It was snot that you can see flying in the aftermath.

 

The shove was very noticeable that I was surprised nothing was made of it. He probably would have still gone down but he did get two helping hands.

 

I’ll bear that in mind for next May, mate.

It wouldn't be quite fair to say that, but for about 15 years I used to knock about with a group of boxing pro's, a manager, a trainer, and a recently (at that time) retired fighter.. not big names but they knew and worked with everyone in the game in and around South Yorkshire. Their view was that some fighters are great at beating opponents up but once they come up against a really good one the bubble will burst for good. They were certain a hard man like Barrera would do him. His camp were well aware that he was one of the biggest hitters in boxing, but that he didn't like to fight big hitters, they said sparring partners who hit too hard were not invited back. They pointed out that opponents he fought had always been beaten by others, no unblemished records, apart from one South American (can't remember his name now) who I thought would be a real test, my friends told me he did have a 100% record but points wins, he couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag apparently.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a rematch ordered. That's a good video that shows the uppercut and Whyte barely moves a muscle until the blatant two handed push to the canvas.
