Ha ha. Could be even worse and the other way round. You'd be in a wheelchair by now.

I get that, but in my experience you learn more in 5 minutes of meeting up with someone you haven't seen in years, than 15 years worth of 'friendship' from afar on Facebook.

As for businesses, you're absolutely right. They feel the need to reply now because of 'repercussions' or fear of losing business integrity, but really businesses are only doing it because other businesses are and they feel they have to. It's the sheep leading the sheep. Direct relationships with customers is bang on the money (I worked in retail for 10 years so I know the value of that). I would also argue that this extends to your friends on Facebook. Once you start having direct relationships you realise who your actual friends are, and who can't be bothered. The ones who can't be bothered will be the ones who continue to conduct their lives on Facebook, with their 342 friends. I know which scenario I prefer, but it took me a while to realise it.

I would just like to say I 100% agree with everything that post says about people on here. I had to log out of my account years ago to stop the abuse I used to get if I dared say anything that doesn't match the opinions of the sheep that post on here. I still read some posts from time to time regarding mangers and transfers but I can guarantee you what he said is true. Thanks. I'll log back out now

I think I must be in the minority. I've had pelters on here and social media. I really don't give a shiny one. I really don't. Don't let the bar steward Gring you down and don't log out cos then they've 'won' their little power trip. And like Khalid, 99.9% of the time they wouldn't say boo to a goose if they saw you in person. Hate bullies.

I'm not so sure you're right. I'm only friends with people I know in real life onFB. But the popular ones on FB ( not me!) tend to be the popular, sociable outgoing sort in real life too.

When I first joined here I was made to feel welcome. When I tried to join the Tykes Talk Facebook group it was the total opposite. All I need to know.

That's just one example though and it's a hard thing to gauge. I also think your situation is quite unique in that all your friends are people you know in real life, and presumably by that you mean you actually meet up and hang out as friends every now and then? Some people - many(?) - fill the void by tracking 'friends' from years ago (school friends, for example), and they end up with hundreds of 'friends' online and to the outside world appear to be immensely popular. Some go a step further and buy likes (yes, they actually pay for it) to appear more popular. When you come off Facebook/social media, you realise who your actual friends are, in terms of friends who will meet up with you and maintain meaningful relationships outside of the online void. I would imagine the number significantly reduces in most cases when quitting Facebook (real friends vs Facebook friends), unless you only had a handful of friends on Facebook anyway.

I’ve thought long and hard about social media and its effects on communication and human relationships.
After writing tens of thousands of words on the subject I’ve come up with the following conclusion.

    It's ballax.

Reads like a huge sweeping statement to me, tbf. Also not sure calling everyone ‘sheep’ helps your argument.

I read the post as being ironic? If it wasn't, he/she should "clear off!" We don't want his sort on here.

So if you post something that a few of the regular contributors disagree with, you’re being bullied.

    And there’s more…

Most of the posts on the BBS are put on by one person who has over 100 accounts on there. He's on there almost 24 hours a day arguing with himself and others. He puts on the posts about mental health issues because he has mental health problems himself (obviously). He doesn't even go to Oakwell and his only link to Barnsley FC is by creating this fantasy world in which he has loads of influence on a BFC website. That's why they don't allow new members as he only creates even more when allowed. They did this a year or so ago and he set up loads more so they had to stop new members again. What the BBS has ended up with is being dominated by posts which aren't about BFC but just about his own pet hobbies - politics, boxing, mental health, Wigan fans, etc. I'd take anything posted on there with a saltmine.
