“Val, we’ve accepted £2million compensation for you to go to West Brom. They’re going to pay you three or four times what we are. They’ve got a transfer budget that trounces ours and you can take all your backroom staff with you” “No I want to stay and finish what I’ve started” “Ok but just to let you know, nobody is buying any of our players so you’re not allowed to play the same way again next season, we want you to play exactly how we want and pick the players we say” “Er, ok” “We’re also releasing Sollbauer, Alex Mowatt isn’t going to accept our offer (in fact he’ll probably go with you if you like), we can’t afford Dike and we’ve got you Devante Cole instead” “I know, I asked for Cole” “Oh **** yeah. Well on top of that, we plan to replace Mowatt with a kid from Burnley and a child from Man City’s u13s” “What about replacing Sollbauer?” “Nah, you’ve got Sibbick and Kitching” “But… ok. At least if you’ve signed Cole, I’ll have options up front with him, Woodrow and Morris, Chaplin and Thomas.” “Yeah, about that…” “And there’ll be options in midfield with Kane, Palmer, the new lads…” “Er, well…” “You know what, forget it. I’ll go” “Nice one. Love you, bye!!!”
Absolutely not a prayer that Val will have even considered saying this. I suspect he saw us as a one season stepping stone the minute he took the job.
You are only ever head hunted if you are successful & Val was exactly that , a good manager who brought in short term financial gain for the suits ,this has backfired big time with the money wasted on two failures & the subsequent costs of relegation , I hope they have learnt a lesson , if you have something that is working then try to hang on to it.
If God is 4, and Banks / McHale were 5 & Big Mick was 6 & Evans 7, let's face it we would not be in this mess.
He still didn't have to go, I get what your saying but it's mostly after the fact that your spouting.
