Obviously, it was a very difficult situation, but other than 'I like Martin Devaney' it's very difficult to put forward a case as to why he should get the job. You could certainly argue that he didn't have a lot of options and he inherited a poor, demoralised squad already relegated, but they're not reasons to give him a job, merely (legitimate) excuses for why we performed so poorly. Can I name a single positive or improvement from his time in charge? Unfortunately, I can't, and I'm trying to because I like him.
Sadly there has been nothing at all happening in the last few games that have suggested that Disco should get the job. I appreciate that he's shipped in some of the kids. But the space that West Brom had today, and the complete lack of any team cohesion or effort, makes you think that he isn't right to take us forward.
Better to have put the kids in with a bit of experience though. Plus as I've paid for my ST I want to see the best team available.
I love Disco. But... I reckon there will be an exodus of players leaving, especially to recover the money we've lost with relegation. Meaning we'll need to bring a fair few in to compliment the fringe players/young players from this season in league one. Now I don't think we will, but I'd love a 'big' name. Perhaps doesn't have the best managerial track record, but will have lots of contacts with agents & managers, and I think we'll need to try find a few cheaper/free options to bring in, and I think that'd be the best way. If we keep a core of our first team players however (doubtful, I know), then I'd much rather go for a more efficient manager, but one who can actually motivate as Val did, because clearly we do have half decent players somewhere in this squad.
My thoughts exactly, I understand people taking a stand against the board, but if someone has already renewed but doesn't like the new manager so decide not to go, it's not really anything against the board, is it? It's deciding not to back the manager. Just my opinion ofcourse, and it's certainly not my money being spent sooo
I don't get this board sometimes! When Poya came in it was all about giving him time, Disco has 3 games with the worst, most inexperienced side we've fielded all season, and we're judging him on it. I don't necessarily think he is right for the job, I just fail to see how you can say he definitely isn't.
I like Devaney, but the last thing we need next season is a manager learning on the job. That would be a recipe for disaster.
Think we've already formulated the recipe for disaster. We've selected and mixed the ingredients, baked it and iced it. The worst Devaney could be is the cherry on top.
I don’t know if Devaney would make a good manager & I still don’t. Can’t judge him with what he’s had available
When Disco took the reigns for these last few games, I didn’t expect a miracle, I didn’t expect genius tactical nous, I didn’t expect us to win a match, but I did expect whoever went out on the field to represent BFC to play with some fire in their belly . I didn’t see that.
