You are right & he has played in league 2 before & failed miserably , it is time for a parting of the ways because a striker who has played over 90 games & has not reached double figures for goals is not the way forward .
I'd be interested to see just how many minutes Victor has played in those 90+ games. He's not started many games at all and he's certainly had a fair few last 5 minute appearances. I do think he's improved from his first appearances. He's also scored with some very good finishes. When you look at our current forwards at the club, he's one of the better ones (it's all relative I know!). I'd be on the fence as to whether to keep him. If he accepted a lower offer, I wouldn't be averse to offering another year. But I suspect given our ridiculous number of forwards under contract we'll release him, and in the circumstances, I think that's probably the right thing.
This season he has played 1068 minutes and scored three goals. So that's only 11 full games and nearly a goal every 4 games, which considering our season, I wouldn't say is too bad. In terms of league football, Championship, League One and League 2, he has played the equivalent of nearly 49 games, and scored 9 goals which doesn't fill me with confidence he will ever be a massive goal scorer, although he may contribute in other ways as part of a forward line.
Take this year as an example. Victor: 1068 minutes and 3 goals (356 minutes per goal) and one assist. Woodrow: 2322 minutes and 4 goals (580.5 minutes per goal) and one assist. Over a 46 game season playing 90 minutes a game each that's the equivalent of 12 for victor and 7 for Woodrow. And that's if Woodrow continued to take penalties
At Championship level, Woodrow has scored 44 goals in the equivalent minutes of 128 games. That's a goal every 262 minutes. His record at Barnsley is 53 goals in 139 games. A goal every 236 minutes. At all levels, Adeboyejo is just 12 goals in the equivalent of 66 games. A goal every 496 minutes.
You dont have figures on assists do you - like for the last goal we scored for example I am open minded about keeping him for another year - for sure I would like us to do better but being realistic I expect he isnt on a large wage and I could see him being a useful squad player and he isnt as injury prone as Morris Iseka and Woodrow seem to be
In the equivalent of 66 games at all levels, Adeboyejo has just 4 assists. At all levels, Leya Iseka has a better goals per minute ratio than Woodrow.
I think this seasons stats are distorted beyond belief given the lack of adventure and quality we've had in areas to create and assist. I think it's highly likely Woodrow and Morris will be sold. They are two of the few assets we have where we could get a decent amount, plus the wages we'd offset by having them off our books. But we'll still have Schmidt, Oulare, Iseka, Cole. We've got Marsh that we'll want to try and bring through. And then we've Thomas, Aitchison and even Oduor who has been tried up top. There's also Bremang and Thompson (though I think they may be out of contract too along with Miller). Ideally, of all our potential front players, I'd rather keep Victor with Morris and Woodrow. But that would mean finding someone willing to buy Oulare, Schmidt, Cole and Iseka. I don't see that happening without serious sweeteners. Sweeteners we can't afford. So I think we're in the position where out of contract players just need to be released to ensure we generate immediate cost saving. Then hope to get the big earners off the books and maybe latterly have a bit of wriggle room to bring in a bit of leadership, grit and experience.
there should be no retained list released until the new gaffer is in and got his feet under the table and that needs to be sooner rather than later
Victor is by no way prolific, but in the games against Stoke and Fulham had he been on the pitch we would have held on for the win. Cole’s f&ck up against Stoke wouldn’t have happened with Vic on the field, he’d have held the ball and got us 30 yard up the pitch rather than trying a fancy flick aimed at no body
Disagree about the Fulham game. We could have put Lionel Messi on up front and we'd have still conceded that goal due to the stupidity of Benson and Palmer.
Oh well if one of us wins the £184 million Euromillions tonight we can buy the club and sign some better players
