Given Olympus Way effectively creates a bypass for Hoyland Common, and also becomes the main route for local traffic to Chapeltown and Wentworth, I’m unsure how Hoyland Common can actually get worse. Granted the roundabouts and DVP will be busier due to additional traffic servicing the developments, but that’s why the road network has just been upgraded. You’ll never stop bottlenecks at peak times without building roads and junctions that are way under capacity 90% of the time, and no council will ever get funding to do that. Nor will they get funding to build grade-separated junctions. People need to realise that we simply have far too many cars on the roads and, at present, have little viable alternatives to using them.
It’s not only a Screwfix next to Starbucks. It’s a development of 7 trade units. Screwfix is taking one of those units. Unsure why everyone thinks it’s just a massive Screwfix warehouse when that isn’t the case.
It continues to expand, in the Chronicle the other week the council said that they had given the green light for another unit to be built & said they did not have any prospective occupier as yet but were confident they would fill it , Hoyland Common is changing from being a village into a giant retail park .
Hoyland Common is suffering the curse of living midway up a massive motorway. Don't know if anyone has got off the A1 at Bawtry at recently but that looks exactly the same.
Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, thousands of acres at the side of the M1 turned over to warehousing.
It was always going to be 7 trade units - nothing has changed there. The frame that’s already up is the footprint they’ll all fit in. Each unit will be a similar size to those at Stairfoot where Halfords Auto Centre etc. is. A lot of the land adjacent to the Dearne Valley Parkway is privately owned so the council can’t do much about those plots being developed.
Makes it sound like a game of Take Your Pick. "Now you've refused the cash offer to sell me your box, do you want to stick with that box or go for the mystery box on the bridge near Junction 37 of the M1? I don't know what's in there - it could be our star prize of a Betamax recorder or it could be an improvised explosive device. Audience, what do you think they should do?"
