I agree, although (in my defence) it wasn't clear from your original post what size of company you were a Director of.
I'm not sure the strategy has ever been an issue, more the execution of it. Developing young players, using data to identify currently undervalued players and selling players for profit to cover operating costs isn't exactly an uncommon strategy. Hopefully we see evidence of the club seeing that the above is more likely to be achieved if you bring players in to have an impact on the team, and then sell on when the right offer comes in. As opposed to just bring them in to trade on, which seems to have been the case when Conway has been acting as CEO.
And precluding yourself from signing effective players from a large talent pool by setting some arbitrary upper age limit
But generally those that build a business will have the major say as they know how its run. Those that own a majority of shares having bought a business generally leave it to the experts.
This might be a stupid question but what is now our relationship with all the other clubs in the Conway/Lee stable?
I'd expect an owner of a football club to be pretty involved. Even more so in a club as small as ours. And even moreso when you follow a concept of often appointing people at CEO level who have never done the job before. Owners of small businesses in my mind, and in my experience, should be devising objectives for the entity they own while the tactics and sometimes strategizing can be more of a mix as to who is involved depending on the industry and the people involved.
Would you expect owners for example newcastle owners to run the club without expert advisors in place.
We're not in the same universe as Newcastle. Next season we'll be turning over £7-8m, before any profits from player sales. It's important the skills of our owners are leveraged into activity to help the skeleton workforce we have.
If I understand it correctly, none…. As they may, or may not have different investors….. but the thing we had in common before was the same people fronting up as agents/nominees for the various investors….. which is essentially different to them having ownership themselves. Now they are gone, it’s feasible that we have very different ownership groups to the other clubs…..although I stand to be corrected…!
think more Fleetwood than Newcastle and have a think how many expert advisors you think are in place.
The newcastle owner will only provide the funds. (The ultimate cash provider) Relying on experts to advise him. Is what I'm trying to say. How many stats has the sheikh is'bum produced and what does he know about the footballing world. It'll be just a toy for him to play with. Three of the board at Barnsley have experience of the footballing world. And will draw on the knowledge of the backroom staff etc.
I don’t think you are getting it. Barnsley are in no way comparable to Newcastle or you or me owning 7 shares in BT. Small businesses will usually be directed by their owners in general strategic terms. They will generally utilise the skills of any board members rather external companies.
I think we are on the same lines. My explanations may not be coming over correctly from my initial post moons ago.
All depends on what is in the shareholders agreement- could be sell to anyone or could be have to offer to sell them to a certain party first refusal.
Who is likely to be chairman? I would hope that it won't be Quay as there would still exist that long murky road back to "the investors" out in never never land. Somewhere on that road I'm sure would be people we don't want to meet again. I really don't know what I'm talking about but is what I'm asking relevant or not?
I would personally like Jean to be Chair. She seems calm, level headed and fundamentally understands the soul of the Club.
Neerav is probably the single largest shareholder of the current board, unless there is a redress back to the Cryne’s for the debt (I appreciate this isn’t a foregone conclusion).
Honestly don’t know what the share make up is. Does that determine who the Chair is? Genuine question, I honestly don’t know. I assumed there was equal voting rights on Board, and that Chair could be any of em. Could be totally wrong though.
I took the share from the recent post showing the makeup https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/bfc-investment-company-ltd-shares.314128/ and honestly I don’t really know how it works either
