Does the Chairman even need to be a shareholder?

Maurice Watkins wasn’t was he? I know when I was at Mitchells and Butlers we brought Bob Ivell in as Chairman, but prior to that he wasn’t even with the company.

the simple question that the board have to ask itself then rectify is: e.g. how much is callum styles worth as a league 1 player against how much is callum styles worth as a europa/champions league player

Chairman doesn’t need to be a share holder no.
I know a guy who is a Barrister by trade but now all he does is Chairman roles on various Boards and doesn’t have shares in most.

It will surely be either Neerav or Jean and I'll be happy with either.

Dunno. Was just just assuming Chair would be someone from the new Board. Would like it to be Jean. I think I'm probably picturing her as kind of our Ann Budge.

Does anyone know Jean Cryne's background? All I seem to be able to find online are references to being Patrick's wife. Does she have a business background? This isn't setting up a criticism of her, as I said in a previous post I'm very pleased that she's more involved and am certain she will want to protect and further Patrick's legacy. I'm just curious about the skills and experience of our new Board.

I interpret Jean’s election to the board as a signal of intent around the new regime being custodians of the club moving forward, rather than her skill set being from a business background per say. You need a sounding board in there to try and second guess how decisions might be received - I think this is what is lacking in a lot of football clubs and why the fan-led review is so important.

Do we know why Neerav stuck around? Just confusing why the secret owners felt the need to get shut of everyone who came in at the same time except him. Why is he the exception? Not against him staying just thought he would have left with the others who joined when he did.

He isn't part of that. Like Chien he's got a share % alone.

Seems from what others have put and looked at the statement he's grown to love the football club and be a fan. Along with his Own Wealth pool behind him and a friendship/ alliance with the Cryne family he wants to stick around and maybe increase his presence at the club.

From the other thread. When BB shares came on offer he was the one that bought them up and increased share % there before selling a small % to Chien for whatever reason.

The 80% comments that people have been throwing around over the last year or so weren't ever true it seems. They weren't ever a group. They were different investors with very different opinions. Paul Conway been forced because of that.

I think you’re going down the rabbit hole many supporters have gone down, in thinking that the investment group initiated this change.

I would give more credit to our current board of directors for the announcement this week.

All seems a bit surreal at the moment.
Nothing really to complain about really ( albeit it would still be good to see confirmation of the full facts).
Can't really see what direction we are taking until we get a manager in place and there's been sod all in the way of updates on that, although given last weeks developments its likely they have pulled the scouts out of places like deepest non league Lithuania and started looking anew .

Neerav is a shareholder (c.23%) so the "secret owners" have no handle over him. The "secret owners" have a minority shareholding (like Neerav). Once the four-year nomination of Conway expired the "secret owners acting for them" decided they didn't want Conway. It would seem that the "secret owners" are happy to have Neerav and Jean Cryne on the board. I suspect that, as Gally/Loko have intimated, Neerav and Jean Cryne were in touch with the "secret owners" to bring about this change.....

Agree. I think most of us would support having a supporter on the board and I think for now Jean fits the bill very well.

My impression of Neerav is that he's the one out of the previous regime who genuinely took a liking to the club and became a fan. He attends a lot of games and I think he sometimes sits with the fans at away games.
Im not in the least bit surprised that he seems to be stepping forward and taking a more prominent role.

Neerav seems to have fallen in love with the club, he’s clearly been a massive football fan & has obviously adopted our club as his own, & from what I can gather has become a good friend of James Cryne. I remember when we appointed Jose Morais, the clubs media uploaded photos of his first training session, & Neerav was stood watching from some scaffolding on the training pitch, he’s clearly invested in the club personally & financially .

I can see Neerav emerging from this as chair of the board. I suppose to an extent it's going to be who feels most comfortable with PR side of the role. Perhaps Jean could do this. Having to explain coherently why you have sacked a manger or, hired another is perhaps the benchmark.

isn't it the law public company's ? that you have to have independent members of your board and chairman
who have no connection to said company's
and this is also strongly advised or maybe even law at private company's.

hence as you said you get people chairing multiple boards
advising, having a independent outside view and obviously noticing any dodgy or strange monetary activity

If Chien or the people behind the PMG shareholding or i guess anyone who is a shareholder in BFC.
decide to sell there shareholding in the club
do they have to offer to sell them to the other shareholders first
before selling them for better word on the open market
