Has anyone renewed their passports recently? If so how long did it take?

My sister got hers back in a few weeks. Sadly, I don't have exact date that she sent form off to give you an exact answer.

Mine took four weeks. The disappointing thing though is that they don’t carry forward unused time from your old passport. It was running out this October so I renewed early to make sure I wasn’t without one. As they issued it in March I lost seven months.

I was panicked into applying early. I shouldn’t have bothered!

Application submitted 1st May. Passport received 11th May.

Eldest daughter's was submitted at the same time and took a few days longer as she had to have her identity verified.

The entire thing was done online, and the progress was updated regularly. Can't fault it.

They have stopped adding unused time onto passport renewals in response to EU policy. Some EU countries will now only accept passports if they are within 10 years of the issue date. I recently dealt with someone whose passport was still in-date but over 10 years from issue ( because of added unused time from his previous passport) and they got turned away by Easyjet when trying to board a flight to Portugal. If your passport is within a year of expiry it is definitely worth checking that it is not more than 10 years since the issue date. If so, you may be refused boarding for EU destinations.

What is the point in an expiry date, if we start going from 10 years after the start date (or in many cases, 9 years or 9 and a half)?

    About 12 days.

I believe it has a considerable difference depending on online or manual form these days.

I did it online. And people I am hearing who did it online are getting them pretty quick

That's odd. I double checked for actual times.

I submitted online 7th April and it was approved/printed and sent out 19th. Add a couple of days for postage. So litterally took 2 weeks.

Surprised you've not had yours back from February. Wow

My boss renewed hers about 6 weeks before she was due to go on holiday, and was worried it wouldn't come in time with how the media have been portraying it. She's currently on a beach in Minorca.

It’s all a ploy to keep holidaymakers in the UK.

First it was passengers being turned away because of non conforming passports, then it was massive delays at airports causing passengers to miss flights, the next tactic was its taking months for passports to be renewed and now reporting drinks limits for all inclusive holidays.

Main stream media at its best manipulating the population into deciding its all too much hassle and going on holiday in the UK.
Not a thought on the travel industry and the struggles they’re going through.

There are loads on Twitter saying they got their passports ( and driving licences) back in a week or so 2 weeks tops. There clearly are some cases where things went wrong and people have waited weeks but these seem to be the exceptions rather than the general rule. So either the press are picking on a few bad cases and spinning it to be the norm to get headlines and sell papers, or more sinister they are doing it to further the case for the Government selling it off to a private company who will cost more and be a disaster but at least some benefactors will get richer
