You’re making the mistake of thinking that anything the club does is good enough for this poster. Had we gone for the Plymouth manager the response would be the one you have. Warnock would be a dee dah and Anisworth would play bad football. If we go for this guy (who I know nothing about) he’ll be rubbish. If we don’t he’ll be the best option is the way it’ll be based on this posters usual garbage.
It's a definite YES from me. We need a coach with League One experience, as well as a good record of spotting talent, constructing a team to a preferred formation and bringing on youngsters as well. Duff has all of those. If you look around for League One experience, the only other one who would rival Duff might be Ainsworth, but I think that he might only even begin to consider us if Wycombe lose in the play-off final. He won't throw up the chance of being with the Chairboys back in the championship. Duff has coaching experience with Burnley in the Premiership, he has done well to over-achieve with Cheltenham Town by playing good football to a preferred 352 formation with wing-backs, he has been trusted by Premiership and Championship teams with the development of young players on loan .....I don't think that we could do much better than this, given the League One scope in which we are looking and who might be available at a salary we could afford. The link with Devaney would also be a fringe benefit potentially. YES from me. Get him in for sure..
And yet several ‘commentators’ saying ‘he’s too good for Barnsley’ etc. With all due respect, if we’re unable to attract the Cheltenham manager, we’re towin.
To be quite honest Marc, if I were him I'd be wanting some pretty strong assurances from us to consider the job. It must be widely known in the game what a car crash the club has been recently and that we could be in a mess financially. I'd say unless money is injected we're in for a difficult few seasons. Duff's career trajectory is definitely on an upward trend. Picking the wrong next move could snuff it out in its infancy. If we go for someone with a track record of success at a decent level we're going to have to be persuasive.
Yeah I’m not meaning to be disrespectful to Michael Duff or Cheltenham, it was more an observation of how we’re now perceived as a Club. In the space of 12 months we’ve gone from PL play offs to a ‘car crash Club’ that can’t attract League 1/2 managers.
Or he might think it’s a no lose situation. If he succeeds he’s brilliant, if he fails, well, everybody knew we were a basket case. The thing is though , if he was a success we could regain the dizzy heights of “stepping stone club”
Bit surprised Ainsworth still has some admirers. His brand of anti-football would turn me away. The Radio Sheffield guy had a right rant about his team's "dirty tricks" other week.
Good post mate, .....we had Big Val (who I liked btw) playing hoof ball, that’s the way Ainsworth plays so all those who slagged big Val off surely wouldn’t be happy if we got Ainsworth
The home game against Wycombe last season has to be one of the worst games i've ever seen. Ainsworth seems a good bloke and he's done extremely well with the resources he has, but I really wouldn't want to endure his style of football at Oakwell.
I think the fact that Wycombe beat the Massive might have influenced RS comments, we used to get some stick under Val because he got results against the so called bigger teams, I say well done to Ainsworth & Wycombe
People love a gallant loser or to pet an underdog but don't like them gate crashing their garden party and digging up their roses and shitting in their gazebo.
at least it shows we are looking at current managers in the league and not just throwing a dart at the red bull alumni
"Duff believes the feat is unlikely to mean much to anyone beyond “a five-mile radius” but it ought to given only the bottom club, Crewe, are operating on a smaller budget in the division. “There is no point harping on about it: ‘Poor us, poor us,’” says Duff. “If we get beat, it’s not because we’ve got no money, it’s because we weren’t good enough.”" Tha'll do for me lad.
I would just like a manager/coach that can get us playing competitive football, where are all these football connoisseurs coming from after watching that shiite last season. Try to play out from the back like the big boys find out your in difficulty and leave it to defence to get their clog through it. that`s hoof ball too no matter how yer coach wants to dress it up at least Val told it how it was and was quite successful at it the bleeder.
