Sadly, there isn't really a local chippy round here. Have to venture (well, I say venture, I mean arrange deliveroo) from Camberwell or towards Herne Hill. I couldn't tell you the prices but I suspect they are comparable to what you mentioned there.
£7.80 for fish and chips, about a tenner for large fish and chips and then £13 for an absolute monster fish and chips
I do them in cafe on Fridays. £5.00 for fish (smallish piece) homemade chips (like your Grannie made) with beans, peas or gravy. OAPs love em.
Surprised at that. Thought a' fruit de mare & artisan hand cut fries' shop would be all the rage round your way.
I'd say Whitby is an anomaly and not reflective of Northern fish and chip prices, especially if you go to the tourist hotspots. £7.95 for small cod/chips or £9.50 for large round my way (Brizzle). Some cracking chippies in Bristol, the only ones I have appreciated outside of the north. Farrows is a notable one, won awards and that and very well priced.
Dunno. Only cost me about £80 in petrol so reasonable I'd say. Mrs Statis’s birthday yesterday. Took her to the Ivy in Richmond, the first time we’ve been out for a meal since the pandemic, what with her having to be careful. Had fish n chips there - £15. Felt a bit uncomfortable though. Fantastic place, but you can’t help thinking about the food and heating crisis and how some can’t afford anything.
That seems quite reasonable for the Ivy, though I've not been in one to know if the brasseries they've rolled out are like their original. Restaurants *sigh*.... I miss them too.
Been to the original one a few times and didn't hold out much hope that this would be as good. But the Richmond one is bang on faithful to the original in food and atmosphere. Their staff have to be the best in London. And for what you get the prices are very reasonable.
I get large fish, chips and curry sauce from Davian's or Ringaroses, Rotherham. I don't know how much they cost because the mother in law usually buys me them as a treat on a Thursday. I'm having burgers tonight though .
Small one near me is £6 - rather buy a bag of fish and a bag of oven treats now. No longer a treat but a luxury
Funnily enough just on a course around liability in the food industry and we've just been discussing cod worms in cod that hasn't been cooked properly So now put off cod for life and haddock it is going forward!
