I didn't know either! I went there for a pre-season friendly once and wanted to know if they still played at same ground as before, which they do. I then saw the 4th oldest club thing. Jeff Stelling was campaigning for their survival at one point, 30k needed, a tenth of some players' weekly wage. Funny old game innit
Nice ground/club from what I remember! Now I think about it, pretty sure Chris Waddle was playing for them when we played them. Just checked wiki and he was there 2000-2002, which sounds about right. Can't remember if he played in our friendly or not though
I have driven passed the ground a number of times since moving down here but never been to a game, probably should get down to a few next season. Been to watch Penistone Church a few times in recent years and always enjoyed those games and Worksop is much easier for me to get to now. Had no idea Waddle played there either. I am learning lots today it seems.
As I live in Worksop they are my grass roots team whilst the Reds are my professional team. I have my ticket for the 25th so will have to get her indoors to make a half Barnsley and half Worksop scarf! The ground is in fantastic condition for a amateur club and has a 3G pitch accessible all year round. With an Academy, U21s, U18s downwards with lots of kids teams. Good Bar on the ground other than that the Mallard in the railway Station.
Got my Ticket for the Worksop Match. It’s not all ticket but free entry with my season ticket. I only live 10 mins from the ground. Lovely set up with 3G pitch.
As someone who lives in Worksop and goes to the occasional worksop game with the young en, me and my lad are looking forward to that and on the plus side my lad said he's definitely supporting barnsley
Latest I've heard are the u23s at Ossett United on the 26th July and Belper Town on the second August. Not sure if the Belper game is first team or u23
