I'd say his stock has risen over the last twelve months as he's built on their promotion. We continue to have slightly different views on where BFC stand at the moment. I think your view is of us as we have previously stood not as we stand in the aftermath of Conway.
    I hope you're right.

I think my view comes from what I think the football ‘world’ would think of us and try and look at it objectively. Rather than what still irks or worries me.

What supporters think and prioritise is very different to football professionals. In my mind anyway. If he get it right at Oakwell, he’ll be managing a fantastic football club in front of 12,000+ supporters week in, week out, with some of the best training facilities outside of the Championship. Budget and ambition will likely be key to convincing him to join, but I think we have that personally.

It's the budget that worries me.
I get the facilities, the 12k crowds if we're doing well. That's all well and good but I'd also be weighing up a squad of shell shocked players, decimated by the loss of Helik and no doubt others and be very concerned about where the necessary additions are coming from.
Hopefully there is some reassurance coming on the 27th.

Can I just say that I've gone from a position of thinking it's all a bit meh to actually doing some research and would be disappointed if we don't get Duff.

I think we all ought to chill a bit regarding finances now Chien and Co are on the backburner.

Thank god for that. That's no guarantee that the financial shortfall is going to be bridged though. When Lee etc took over they said they weren't going to plough money in and they didn't. Unless we get some unfeasibly big bucks for the likes of Helik we're looking at meagre resources for a while I reckon. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't think the American owners of Burnley, know who Michael Duff is and his history with the club. They will be looking elsewhere.

I think i'd choose Barnsley over Cheltenham to be honest in terms of value for money, the people, and surrounding countryside (though the countryside around Cheltenham is quite nice). Cheltenham's alright for a day out, but I think it would be a bit boring living there to be honest. It's a bit like that other spa town Bath, where the people who do live there think it's the best place on earth, but in reality it's just a bit average.

I used to work with a girl from Cheltenham, who a week into the role declared she had dropped History when doing her degree because the bit on the miner's strike 'was, like, so boring.' Soon after she revealed she had done door-to-door canvassing for a Tory election campaign (under Cameron). I couldn't bring myself to sign her leaving card.

I'm not about inverted snobbery or generalising people, but there has always been an air of snobbery about the People of Cheltenham that turns me right off.

    I'm happy with this tbf.

The second step (after the disappearance of Conway) into me renewing I think. I'll see what else happens over the summer.

Neither of them walked into a basket case of a football club though.

Don't think Cooper was happy at Swansea from January onwards. Also I don't think a HC would see the club that way at oakwell

Martin has done a fantastic job after Cooper, the big earners and better players including some very good loan signings had gone and he’s got them playing,I think he’ll be managing in premier league within next 3 years.

The fact we're approaching a Head Coach that will require compensation suggests to me that the team managing the finances are confident we'll be ok. Probably boosted by the response to season tickets vs. the forecast from some quarters.

We've still got significant revenue advantages vs. the majority of teams in this division. Duff only spent £5k on a player to win League Two, and he'll likely look at the Academy, look at where some of the players were in terms of performance level, and back himself to get them playing to their full potential again. Of course some will leave, but we were a bit of an anomaly the last time we came down in only really moving on Bradshaw - but then we had to sell Potts in January as a result.

If Burnley get relegated, they are in serious trouble financially due to the way the loans they have taken out. They could be forced to look at this level if down, totally agree though if they stay up.

Parachute payments will still make them favourites to go straight back up. Longer term they could be in trouble, but they'll still want to chase the dream with a marquee signing in the dugout I think.

Part of buy out they borrowed £65m to fund it and circa £20m is expected to have to be paid back instantly when relegated.
Big hole in the parachute payments that.
