Mmmmmmmm, I wonder if the above mentioned teams had a good laugh or mocked us when we got relegated, wouldn't know because I haven't bothered looking on their forums but I'm guessing they did.
Wigan fans are literally glued 24/7 to news on Barnsley, absolutely cream themselves if our under 12's lose... Pathetic but hey their mums love em.
They have street parties in Wigan every time we lose. Last season it was like a never ending Jubilee celebration.
In what way? Didn’t send off Barnes for an elbow to Mings face, but don’t remember owt else controversial?
I didn't think there was any intent and the coming together was completely accidental. You had a second penalty incident for handball. Not too dissimilar to the one Burnley conceded just days earlier, but VAR ruled this one out. And then you had the ridiculous sending off when Lowton got the ball fairly and cleanly. And you had a foul throw that lead up to the Villa equaliser. From the hour or so I saw, I thought Villa were the better side, but there were certainly some big decisions that went against Burnley.
I didn’t think the elbow was intentional, but if they had ruled it a red card it would have been unfair against Burnley. Disagree about Lowton. Thought the follow through was dangerous and whilst players got away with them all the time in the 80s that’s a red card every time VAR looks at it now. The only other penalty shout I recall was where it hit the shoulder chest of a player. Don’t know about the one given against Burnley the other week, but that was never a penalty for me. I don’t have a dog in the fight, but didn’t see anything particularly wrong in the game. I didn’t watch with the sound on though, so perhaps there was some discussion by the commentators that I didn’t catch.
The handball looked to hit the arm to me, not the shoulder. Given Burnley dropped a point to Tottenham with a pen given for a a virtually identical decision, I can see why they'd be disappointed. I didn't think it was a pen either, but if the Tottenham one was given, that should have been. The red card just wasn't dangerous. It wasn't high, he got the ball well before getting the player. We're entering a world where tackles may as well be deemed illegal. My overriding sense was to wonder the point of VAR if it can't overturn bad decisions. You may as well do away with it and just go with the referee on the pitch. Just have a system that is about line calls. But if you look at the points for Burnley... they conceded a goal which shouldn;t have been allowed for a foul throw, weren't given a penalty they were themselves penalised for in the previous game and had a player sent off for cleanly getting the ball who wasn't being reckless. Thats cost them 2 points and may cost them relegation. You can see why they'd be very upset with consistency of refereeing.
the hand ball which was more of a hand ball than the penalty given against them. the sending off. Clearly got ball. Lifted his foot afterwards when tackle already made
Its annoying that Everton have rode their luck and just managed to stay up, again!. Id love to see a club of that size having a year or two in the Champship, it might bring them back down to earth a bit. So now its down to Burnsley or Leeds. And with all the lucky late stoppage time goals they've got this season, Im guessing Leeds will just scrape through and stay up.
I suppose its admirable that teams keep playing right till the final whistle. But it does also come across as very very lucky, when they get a lot of goals on 90+ minutes. I bet either club will be one of the favourites to go back up though, so relegation shouldn't be a disaster for either of them.
