I can't be any clearer I'm afraid. Surely any player we ever acquire might or might not fit in. We have our spreadsheet, our algorithm, our means by which to assess all measure of youngsters breaking through in lower leagues or youth or reserve teams. We have an ethos of trying to make money out of astute signings. But we choose to retain someone whose value we all know will not significantly accrue. And whose talent is known but sadly limited. And who will likely leave us festering in League 1 at best. And who by your own assessment ought not to playing many games. Instead we should be trusting our means of recruiting someone who may be better than Viv.
He didn’t leave us festering in League One last time though? This is only a valid point if we’re aware of who might be available on the same terms. We’ve got a squad to build over the Summer, and extending Viv’s contract ‘could’ be a key part in how it shapes up with other signings. You and others might view that negatively, which is fair enough, whereas I just don’t see it quite the same way. Which should also be fair enough. There’s not many players who’ve been part of a Championship Playoff squad in the last 12 months, and featured within it, signing for us on Vic’s wages. There’s always someone in the squad who’s there not to play or start very often.
I’m basing it in those two yes sir ! He wasn’t that good under Val . Mowatt made him look better than he was. You can add Styles to that in some extent! it’s a poor decision to keep both imo and it shows to some degree our intentions. We have a very poor midfield , benson is worse than palmer in my eyes. Totally not up for the fight, la king confidence or not! Matty Wolfe is miles ahead of those two Just my opinion but again you have to resort to jibes, digs and smugness . I will leave it here
You’ve spent the last three months having digs and jibes at me in fairness, so I’m not massively convinced by you playing the victim card on this one. All I’ve done is ask you to confirm what you said - that the new contract for Vic is the reason you’re not getting a season ticket. But again. I’m the one that doesn’t step up and answer questions.
No point re signing Vic when he can't even control a ******* ball. Bloody thing ends up bouncing 20 yards off him and he has to turn around and work out where the ball has gone! His goalscoring record is appalling. I don't care that people are saying he's backup, he's awful backup and would struggle to lead a team in the national league North. We can bring in better backup players. Shows the intent of the club that they've offered him a new contract, never learn.
Viv/Vic is a forward. In the 23 games he played after early August in our last League 1 season, he did not score at all. He would not be in anyone's first 11 for that season. If your submission, based upon far more inside knowledge than I, is that BFC have checked all other avenues and come up with nobody we could possibly identify within our budget who might be better or possibly develop to be better, then fair enough. Which would be depressing.
That's a huge gamble and one that shows that decisions are not being made in the interest of the football team but in the interest of the bank balance.
Yep, we sign players then write them off without giving them a fair crack yet look desperately for reasons to keep players who have had loads of opportunities. Woodrow is a classic example, top earner with minimal impact but based on what he was doing 60 games ago he'll be top scorer in league 1. No idea what money Vic is be on but I can't imagine players like Tom Eaves will be commanding too much for next season.
Yep. His disgraceful lack of effort (and Benson's) WAS a big part of why we've gone down. The amount of points thrown away because of his laziness would have meant we stayed up. Of course he isn't the only one, a few were bone idle, but they aren't out of contract. He is. As I said, if this was a Peterborough message board and he was a Peterborough player this season that we have just signed on a free. Would you be happy with that signing after looking on here and seeing the comments from many people criticising his lack of effort all season? I wouldn't.
I know palmer gets alot of stick but benson really worries me to say we paid a fee for him he played one ball and people were creaming over it. But his lack of effort and his softness has been a shocker for me really hope he proves me wrong but he really needs to pull his fonger out. He also struggles to last 90 minutes and always seems injured or unavailable.
Choosing to enter the coming crucial season with the pair of them is a huge mistake. We can't afford to have two wasters in midfield again and can't afford to have them filling the squad.
I think we should start this season with a clean slate and give them all a chance. Otherwise, what's the point?
Likewise what's the point in only offering contracts for 1 2 or 3 years if, no matter how lazy you are and how badly you perform, you are offered a new contract the following year because it's a clean slate?
By that logic we may as well offload the lot, because apart from Collins nobody really deserves a new contract on last season's showing. But football doesn't work like that. It's a new season, we no longer have two clueless wonders at the helm (Schopp and Poya), and we no longer have two poisonous leeches ruining the club (Chien and Conway). So I reckon we should get behind them.
That makes no sense. The lot weren't out of contract, Palmer was. It's not a football decision to keep him, it's a profits over points decision and apart from anything else it makes the supposed boardroom takeover and their claims that on pitch success will be at the forefront of every decision look to be a load of ********
I don't think he was the only one out of contract though correct me if I'm wrong. As for Palmer, he had a woeful, abject season last season (like most of the team), but he performed admirably the two seasons before, so he has a 66% success ratio if you look at it over the last three seasons. You're just honing in on last season and you've been way over the top in your criticism of him and Benson, when as I said previously they were all responsible for last season's failure and they all underperformed. I don't think we should single out players time after time. There comes a time when they need our support and they go again. I'm not saying he doesn't need to prove himself again - he does. But then again they ALL do. And we should get behind em.

Nah sorry. Deserves **** all and will get **** all. His attitude has been disgraceful. He was actually **** last season too. Mowatt was the midfielder playing well not Palmer. Out of contract were Palmer, adeboyejo, Jinadu and halme. We've released two and kept two. Looks purely financial to me as the two we've released are injured and therefore less marketable. We've kept the two uninjured ones who we hope we can trade stocks in to generate a bit of cash for our investors
Vic 100% deserves an offer. He’s a trier and as long as he isn’t considered the main man (which obviously he won’t) I’m okay with it. Ultimately on the money he’ll be being offered we won’t be able to get anyone better anyway. Palmer I’m not sure but if it protects an asset then fine. And maybe he’ll be the previous seasons version. as always with some on here they won’t be happy whatever the club does.
