Is being a trier enough to get a contract though? His touch is woeful, he doesn’t score enough and he’s not young (for us anyway). I honestly think it would be better for both parties if the contract was rejected but I doubt that will happen. Let’s just hope he’s on a very minimal wage. This is coming from a self proclaimed happy clapper too!
Don't apologise, I'm sorry you feel that way. I found last season utterly exhausting; watching the sh4tshow on the field was exhausting; hearing Poya drone on about defensive systems was exhausting; the anger and negativity surrounding the club was exhausting (though completely understandable). The season could only have been worse if we had somehow gone into administration. I'm in a place now where I have to let the negativity and anger of last season go for my own sanity, and that includes supporting Romal Palmer. But you continue with your vendetta against him, I hope it brings you some closure. But you may need to wait a couple of years until we flog him. Or you could just let it go. We all know you hate him, you don't need to prove it any more than you already have, but feelings can change I think you're wrong about him being '****' last season and Mowatt playing well not him by the way, i thought they complimented each other and your assessment is very unfair. As for this deal, I think we've offered him a contract with a view to playing him (not purely as an asset-protection move). We're a bit thin on the ground in midfield so I expect he'll be in contention. We'll have to see. Hopefully he steps up to the plate and regains his spark.
Again. Telling me stats we all know. I’m not even going to come back with how many were off the bench, or point to the fact that you don’t have a fourth choice striker who would be in anybody’s starting XI. Or that some of those appearances will have been to close a game out and rest first choice strikers. You think we should have let him go and looked elsewhere. I’m saying elsewhere would have cost much more and with a bigger chance of not being as useful as Vic has shown on occasion. It’s hardly the wildest assumption either side of an opinion have made. I remember everyone saying he deserved another year after playing for Val. He’s then spent most of the season injured or on the bench, playing for two of the worst coaches in history, but showing more in effort and desire than many other new signings or players on longer term deals.
Rubbish. The club would be crucified if we’d just let him leave for free and foregone compensation. He’s also got enough talent to prove everyone wrong in League One. Providing the new coach can get him to show the right desire and build his confidence back up like most of the first team bar a handful.
Tom Eaves is picking up at least three times the wage of Vic. This is a player who has never commanded a transfer fee or been paid a decent salary for most professional levels.
Ah. So you’re attacking the new board already? Didn’t take long did it. Where does ‘supposed’ come from and how come we didn’t hear from you at the time of the announcement?
Not sure why being a trier qualifies a player for getting a new contract. We could pull someone out of the stands who’d be a trier. Ability should be the deciding factor and on that basis Vic wouldn’t be getting a new contract.
Very shortly he'll be picking no wage up and I can't imagine that he'll get another championship club, so keeping our powder dry for a while might not be too ridiculous.
I have to say I raised an eyebrow about Palmer having performed well the previous two seasons. The season before the play off campaign he only played three games and during the season under Ismael the amount of actual football he was required to play was a bare minimum. When required to perform in a team playing a more conventional type of football this season he's failed miserably. If he's staying, fair enough, but he doesn't have a clean slate he has a massive amount to prove.
I reckon we should all wait to see what our final squad looks like at start of next season before arguing toss over a retained list. It’s hardly a disaster what as been announced. Just chill a little and see what unfolds.....
If it was purely about money the board would release Vic and Palmer and not replace them , obviously saving 4 wage packets...As we're all aware the players are monitored and their performances assessed by technology. I think if we get the right Manager people like Palmer and Benson will have to up their game which the club must think is possible
It's a balancing act, as I'm sure you already know. I would hope that, overall, the new board will steer the club into a position where the majority of decisions are made for footballing reasons. But there may have to be exceptions sometimes, because (as again I'm sure you know) the playing side and the finances are inextricably linked. Offering Palmer a new deal may be one of those times. Perhaps we should give the new board time to rearrange things over the next few months without jumping on their backs at the first sign of anything we don't agree with?
In a season where we've regressed so much as a football club, Adeboyejo's ball control is one thing that I actually think has improved. Under Val, his first touch was abysmal, and the main thing holding him back. I'd say its come on leaps and bounds this season personally. I certainly think he could do a job from the bench, holding the ball up when we're defending a lead going into the last half an hour. I'm not sure he's ever going to lead the line at league 1 level though. I presume he's been offered a low contract offer (along with Palmer) as if to say, this is where we see you at now, take it or leave it.
Out of curiosity how much is vic actually earning? Judging by all the comments on here about his low wages I presume it’s common knowledge what he is on a year Obviously I missed that information when his new contract was offered to him
I'm trying to imagine the panel at the transfer tribunal debate the compensation we're owed if Palmer rejects our contract and signs for another team: 30? He's worth more than 30 60? Bit high, what about 50? Ok 50 The transfer tribunal have made their decision, Penistone Church Reserves will pay Barnsley FC 50p compensation after signing Romal Palmer.
Lowest paid footballer in the country by the sounds of it, and it would be impossible to sign anyone any better on an equal or lesser wage. Like you, I'm looking forward to learning the exact figure.
Keeping the majority of a squad together is the most important thing, they understand each other, build a trust and become close. Our players I hope are better than they showed last year, the list of things wrong at the club last season must have affected the players on the pitch. If we balance the books with sales of Morris Woodrow Helik Collins Styles bring back Aitchison, Thomas, Kane in to the squad and make a couple of astute experienced signings and a couple of loans then i would be happy for that squad to step up and challenge in league 1. Looking at below new signings and loans will be very important and thats the key to next year with our big names leaving but whats left as in our lads is some decent talent for the right new coach to bring on. Walton Brittain Williams Anderson Kitching Oduor Wolfe Palmer Benson Vic iseka 2 x new players 2 x loans Cole Aitchison Kane ICD Moon Thomas Hondermarck Marsh Sraha
Imo his first touch has never altered in the few games he’s appeared in . I’d say 75% has been mis controlled . Can’t fault his work rate or commitment but his first touch and goals ratio is abysmal snd if this is what we’re aspiring to then we ain’t going anywhere very fast imo .
