Paul Cook win record is 42% over almost 800 games.. not too sure why youd try to credit that to someone else over a failure at Ipswich, but heyho. By far the best consistent win record of any of the names mentioned.. not against Duff or anyone else but Cooks record stands up against anybody's.
You’re right about how long we would get out of him, I’d only want him here if it was part of a continuity plan. Something along lines of here for 1-2 years with a view of (insert name) to work alongside to take over.
I'm sure I read that in Rugby League it's a pretty standard procedure in the recruitment process that most clubs get prospective managers to do some psychometric testing. I do have a sh.1t memory tho, so that could be just in my head...
Paul Cook is like the Neil Warnock of league 1. Knows the league inside out, did a grand job at Wigan, did well at Portsmouth, & didn’t really get the chance to do well at Ipswich. I’d be happy if we went with Cook.
I recall seeing some of the media interviews Paul Cook did whilst at Ipswich. I thought that he had lost the passion for the game and it looks as though that may have continued into his Chesterfield spell as well. It was said when we appointed Paul Hart that he hadn't allowed himself enough time to re-charge the batteries after his Forest exit and I think that the same could be true of Paul Cook as well. Ipswich was clearly dispiriting for him and Chesterfield has been a bit of a downer as well. I would think that he needs a good spell of up to a year out of the game before coming back into EFL management again. I wish him well. He is football through and through and knows the game inside out, but it is a demanding game emotionally and I don't think that would be the right time for him, nor the right appointment for us. I was always convinced that we were about to appoint Steve Cotterill when Paul Hart became available from Forest with his Ridsdale links. I also always wonder what would have happened had we done so. Might have been a different story. Still Michael Duff for me, especially now that the Burnley post seems to be going to Vincent Kompany.
You'd have thought they'd have postponed until all the eggs were in the basket so to speak. Seems a bit silly that he's let something that would signal his intent pass him by.
