You’ll enjoy Dubrovnik airport though. Puts our lot to shame.

Yes but one example of a family flying to Turkey 12 hour wait at airport, finally got seated on teh plane only to be ushered off and told the flight was cancelled as the crew had exceeded their hours. (Report did not state which airline). Regardless of circumstances - (notwithstanding issueswith the actual aircraft)- that should never happen .
They knew the situation or as a business should have known the supply and demand , staffing levels etc but carried on taking bookings up to the last moment. A perfect example of profit over customer care. Blaming Covid is becoming a tired over used excuse.

Curious... Went a few times to various coastal resorts in the 80's when it was still all Yugoslavia but not been to Dubrovnik. I was told recently is has been a bit 'spoilt' due to the 'Game of Thrones' connection and overrun with fans and with traders and hawkers shouting 'Winter is Coming".
If someone can confirm that is not true it would be great as it is still somewhere we want to visit and we now live a short ferry ride away living, as we do, close to the Adriatic Coast in Italy.

8th time for us, although first time since 2018. Although it's the first time in Dubrovnik. Our usual haunt is the Istrian Peninsula in Porec. Our favourite country in Europe, no question

This will be the holiday that should have been 2 years ago, but been put back twice. Tui have had our money for this since November 2019. How bizarre is that.

Can't wait for the holiday now, but still dreading the airport.

Under Tito when Yugoslavia it was a cheap destination. In 1984 we went to Porec and you could buy dinar cheques to spend in bars and restaurants . They gave a 10% bonus so you could use a 50 dinar cheque buy some drinks costing e.g. 5 dinars and get the drinks and 50 dinars (in cash) change. i.e. free drinks. The gostiona's menus were very cheap too. Slivovitz (plum brandy) and Prosec (like sherry) were dirt cheap. Good tours too from Porec... Try to make the Postojna cave trip... amazing place as well as Motovun and the bridge at Mostar if you havcen't already.

Well we never saw anyone shouting such things, and there was little obvious peddling of 'Game Of Thrones' . It was busy, but most people were either walking the walls or sauntering through the city, eating and drinking at bars/restaurants. The weather was perfect: 25C most days.

The caves at Postojnsa are beautiful. Amazing.

Been to Motovun. I recall it being about 50 deg that day. Thought I gonna melt into a puddle of sweat.

    Not done Mostar.

Last time we were there, we went on a trip to Tito's holiday island but I can't remember its name. It was lovely though.

Flew to Majorca from LBA recently, absolute **** show in Leeds, only just made the flight despite arriving 3.5 hours before the flight. Amazingly, Covid doesn't seem to have impacted Palma airport like it has the UK. Efficient, on it, whole thing took probably 15 mins and had a couple of hours to eat, look around shops etc. This country is just bad at a lot of things!

Heard today that someone drove to Manchester to do twilight bag drop and had to wait 2 hours for that! And then had pay a fortune for the car park as a result. Farcical stuff.

Just returned at the weekend from Rhodes. We flew from Fiumicino in Rome to Athens and then onto Rhodes. Returned the same way. In spite of Fiumicino being one of the busiest and largest Airports in the World, check in , security and boarding were smooth. Check in/luggage drop opened just over 2 and a half hours before flight. Security wait time was 6 minutes. Transfer time at Athens was 50 minutes but due to delays in docking at a bridge, we got to the Rhodes plane with 5 minutes to spare (only to find it was delayed by an 45 minutes due to a technical issue on the plane). Our return , again via Athens was smooth. Rhodes and Athens processing was smooth and stress free.

Caveat... as we were travelling from and within Schengen there was no immigration checks like would have been the case travelling from UK (pre and post Brexit

Nevertheless, Friends travelling within EU and beyond are reporting little disruption with a few minor exceptions. The usual UK shortsightedness by both businesses and Government, combined with prioritising short term profits/shareholders before customers is probably IMO the main cause.Same old story

There's a lovely island with a ruined tower at the top, like a nature reserve. We got there by boat (obviously!) and it was so quiet and peaceful, hardly a soul there. There's some lovely boat trips.

Are you planning on diving? The coast is great for 'viz' (except one time many years ago when there was a plague of jellyfish all along the coast:eek:)

So"s my mate. Lake Garda. If you're both coming over to Kerry in late July you're either one and the same or I'm going to have to get more beer in! :)

Pre-covid I was a regular traveler through Manchester and Birmingham, and Birmingham was a much better passenger experience - usually a lot quieter too.
