I'm flying from LBA this coming Saturday.

Dreading it, reading some of these. It's never been my favourite airport (especially the return leg) even though it is just 15 mins away. I'll report back.

Everywhere sounds like a nightmare at present but Manchester sounds the worst so slight consolation! :)

To be fair, at the height of the doom / gloom headlines last month, Manchester was getting a bad rap every day, but we got through relatively easy* and same on the return.

    * our security lane was blocked cos one ridiculously large 'hand baggage' got stuck under the scanner - they had to pretty much dismantle the thing to free the bag. Smooth apart from that.

Anyone going to lake Garda should visit Emmanuele D'Annuncio's Estate/house now a museum. He was a WW1 hero, poet, womaniser, and a 'friend' of Mussolini (or rather possibly ,'had something over him' as he received huge amounts of money and gifts from him in spite of being anti-fascist).
The house and estate with its museum is full of fascinating sights including the bizarre sight of a ship-half embedded in the hillside by the lake. It is at Gardone Riviera just up from Salo overlooking the lake. Just Google his name.

My lad flew from Manchester last week. No issues told to arrive 3hrs early. Got there 2.5 hrs before.
Was told Leeds Bradford had issues the same day. some folk missing their flights. Even though arrived 3hrs before.
We are flying from leeds Bradford in July.

    I'll pass the message on.
We are toying with going that way ourselves next year. My g/f has taught herself Italian to a decent level and, though we love Venice, wants to go somewhere where less English is spoken. I went to Garda maby years ago. Maybe there or Lake Como. Can't decide which at the moment.

I flew from East Midlands last Monday afternoon, 15 minutes at most from walking through the doors to sitting in the bar waiting for departure
Very smooth with no issues whatsoever

Don’t worry our ‘post-Brexit freedoms’ will sort it all out .

I went there as a kid, must have been 1984-85. Think it was Rabac we went to. Agree that the caves at Postojna are amazing. Plitvice Lakes were fantastic too. And we got a hydrofoil over to Venice.

Only other time I've been was a few years ago to Rovinj and a short stop in Pula. Beautiful country, and some very decent food too.

Watched that this morning. My coffee got spluttered when I heard that.

My other thought was just how far down the barrel they are scraping to find someone to go on the airwaves to defend DePfeffel. I didn't even know we had a Minister for Arts... let alone he was a Lord!

We too, took the hydrofoil to Venice for the day. Fantastic day out and our guide was a huge scary looking Serb called Igor:eek: almost impossible to miss in the crowd without or without his umbrella.:) Actually, as it turned out, a really good guy.

There are so many fantastic places in Italy. I'd very much recommend Sicily if you're going for a week or more. Palermo is a great city and some very interesting stuff to see.

If you're after more of a city thing, you could try Emilia Romagna. Bologna, Parma, Moderna are all fairly close and the food is jaw droppingly amazing. Ferrara isn't far on the train either.

But frankly, you could pretty much go anywhere in Italy and have an amazing time. Turin is a personal favourite and often overlooked for Milan.
