I'd keep them, FWIW. I don't 'love' them, and there's a couple I don't really respect. And yes, it needs modernising a little (which it will naturally over the coming years). But I respect the concept. Why? Cos if we 'got rid of them' ....... to quote a few, you have to realise that we would still have to have a figurehead at the helm. That could be an ultra-wealthy president a la US of A (God forbid) who is essentially rich, elitist and powerful (moreso than our current Royals), or a despot Putin-like dictator; but in this day and age it would most likely be the winner of a month-long televised vote, hosted by Ant & Dec, in the format of Love Island or TOWIE. Sorry but I'd rather support a centuries old institution in representing my country than some publicly elected fat-lipped, orange, loud-mouthed, sweary, obnoxious, self-centered 'celebrity' voted for by the people that gave us Brexit.
In the link which is from when it was announced it states the offer runs until midnight on May 31st. It was only on offer to people who bought a season ticket on early bird. To get the deal we had to spend £40 on something we don't know what it looks like. Those who buy a season ticket at the higher price from today cannot use the offer as it's gone. It was asked at the fans meeting last Friday at the very end about it being extended and the question was laughed at, they mumbled about seeing about getting it extended, but it hasn't been.
Well done him, I hope he springs to attention and salutes her when he hears the national anthem, if not he needs to give himself a bo€£ing
I agree, I have never been a royalist but it is what it is and fair play to the queen batting on like that ( probably more a reflection of the complete Herbert who is next in line) Personally as I've got older I've slightly changed my mind and would probably keep them. but cut out all the spongers and hangers on and just have the two at the top, their kids and possibly a couple of back ups ( not their families). At the same time I would make an example of that creep get Andrew and banish him somewhere!
Why would we have to have a figurehead? Get rid of them. All of them. Sell their property and such, and divide it up and give it those who need it.
Every country has a figurehead. Whether that is a King, Queen, President, Despot, Dictator. Tell me one that doesn't? And who would you prefer? Cos elected heads (government) generally make a pigs ear of things.
Heyup pal, email from club today on afore mentioned offer, QUOTE - UNIQUE DISCOUNT CODE VALID UP TO MIDNIGHT 6th JUNE. My loyalty, dedication, blind faith rewarded! Obviously I am not of a replica shirt wearing age, but my children/grandchildren are and all Reds.
But we could have a president along the lines of the German or Irish models whereby they are elected but act in much the same way that the Queen does, mostly above party politics and acting as a cermonial head of state.
We could, I totally agree. I don't think as a nation we are sensible enough. But then the ones who didn't vote them in would become the new "get rid of them" brigade.
Have you seen our current Prime minister by any chance? You trust this public to elect a head of state? Do the royal family still bring in more money than what the taxpayer spends on them? Because if they do id keep em, if not, I'm not sure what's the point in keeping them. I'm not even totally sure if they ever did bring in more than what we spend on them, I read left leaning media saying they don't, but in other media they do. Albeit, I was 15 at the time. I actually quite like the Queen though. Not the family, but the Queen. Id hate to be her, or a celeb, in any fashion. Constantly in the world media every day
They don't bring in more than they cost, not really. They do if you count tourism, but that also assumes that the country would get no tourists without them.
What's wrong with being different and not. Just have the PM and I know our current ones a tw*t, but so could the residing royal or other leader and maybe be harder to be shut of.
Well I sort of understand your attitude then. Loyalty to the crown (blind or otherwise) is probably part of the psyche.
