I feel no matter what the club do the stick comes out again.
Three people with experience on these matters have explained what it entails and how its helped them.

 

My job doesn’t ask me to provide my own laptop to work from home.

Edit seen the posts above re equipment being provided.

 

My youngest daughter is a budding photographer and if it was more local this is exactly what she would be looking for.
Part time working for a Professional outfit that will do nothing but add to her resume and as evidenced by others opens doors for future opportunities.
On the equipment part, even if they did supply, she would not want to use anything but her own equipment.
In terms of limiting availability, our college allow students who can’t afford their own to use take theirs to work experience/interns (like a library).

 

But she'd prefer to be paid though?

 

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

 

Of course she would prefer to be paid who wouldn’t.
But in all seriousness she would also do a day a week for free for the experience.

 

Thing is, my kids have needed to work as students and doing one day a week for "experience "would hinder either that or their studies.

 

Completely agree.

Unpaid internships are morally bankrupt. End of.

If you can’t afford the labour, you go without.

 

Unpaid internship from an organisation like BFC that should be aspiring to a higher level of professionalism, is poor.
Minimum wage would be poor, but atleast better than this. If u want the quality candidates, u pay a living wage as a minimum.

 

It’s a great idea.

A few hours a week to gain experience in your chosen field of work.

It’s not about the money or exploitation - it’s about giving access and experience to students who otherwise wouldn’t get it.

Some kids will choose not to, some kids will.

The same as some kids who also work during college, and those that don’t…..

Most people I know did Trident for 3 weeks when 15 too - again, great experience whether in the right or wrong place. Everyone came away with something.

 

It's not just gaining experience though is it? They're producing something the club will gain from. I can't see any justifiable reason not to pay nmw at least

 

Flip that around - if you can’t afford the Labour, then the youth suffer as that experience can’t be given.

I think a few hours a week is perfectly fine. I’d agree if it was 2 or more days a week, then that would be seen as more exploitation.

Sometimes, as a business, you can’t win. But the intention to do right is there. We know money is tight at the club right now

 

Money is tight but we can still find £400k to pay executives but not £400 to pay a kid.

Morally bankrupt every day and twice on weekends.

 

Disagree.

Anyone serious about pursuing a career in that chosen field should jump at the chance. It’s only a few hours a week. And as YT points out, many have gone on to bigger things.

I wonder why there is a cost of living crisis?

 

My daughter produced something for uni. You could argue that it was good experience for what she wants to go on to do but she got paid. Yes, she probably would have done it unpaid but that's not the point.

 

I did bits of unpaid work when at college, and I also worked as well.

The unpaid work gave me the experience I needed for future life - as I couldn’t gain employment at the time in that field.

And the work I did was checked, adjusted and feedback given. So there was little profit from it for the company (that process took longer than they doing the actual task themselves), but I profited greatly from it.

As I say - a few hours a week doesn’t matter. A few days is a different story.
