I would expect Quina was hoping for better offers until the last minute. If he was our first choice (championship experience) we may well have held off until the last minute whilst he was still an option. I think we were lucky to get both him and Bassi. I suspect that Bassi was second option to Quina and we got them both because both deals went through last minute. They were both massive pluses in what was a ballax season.
I wouldn't say that's why we were ultimately relegated. 4 of our 6 victories came after the January windows. I think we were destined for relegation long before the January, and whilst that might have saved us, ultimately many things happened before and after then that contributed to us going down. After all, we were still within touching distance of 4th bottom when losing to Peterborough, dropping points again Reading, and losing Helik through injury. Whilst Khaled hasn't covered himself with glory so far, I don't think he's solely responsible for our relegation. He's got a lot to prove this season though.
Because, we are like the people who go to the supermarket half n hour before it shuts. Looking to see what is in the bargain bin. Be the same this August aswell. Then we get the "give the player time, he's not had a pre-season" shout's. Happens every year for at least the last ten
Think the point being both Bassi and Quina didn’t join till the 31st Jan we effectively wasted another month even when we got to January despite us also agreeing to extend Herbie Kanes loan. (Who im guessing didn’t want to come back anyway)
Quina was with Fulham and us and Watford would have had to see what Fulham wanted to do. I'd imagine they brought someone in to allow him to go
If we had fetched in a manager who tried to hit the ground running rather than pissing abart with the defensive side then we MAY have pulled of a shock, Poya was the wrong choice.
Reasons we were relegated: 1) Conway's "running" of the club in the summer. 2) Appointment of 2 coaches who'd struggle to get a job in the Hallamshire leagues. 3) see 1).
With respect. He, khaled, consulted others in the club footballing staff. Re Kent. It is his call to make but on advise of others. It was decided to leave him where he was. Probably same with the 2 loan signings he made. Who turned the fortunes around initially. It's down to the coaching staff and manager to advise. It's his job to cover the finances. I'm guessing Kent's wages may have also covered the 2 that came in .
Only my view on this mate. Most transfers are done at the end of a window. Players weighing up their options until then. Bottom of the league club would not be high on their agenda.
Not got much understanding of how the transfer market works then. Only successful clubs offering big money, may get in early. A certain player at Barnsley was released on £8k pw. and ended up on peanuts in comparison. reputedly £800 pw . Didnt get a club till September. His agent advising him to wait for better offers. Can't remember who it was. That was preparing to sign for Sheff utd at the last hr. Manager going to meet him at the train station. He didnt turn up. I can't remember if he went elsewhere or decided to stay at his present club.
Try to remember how supporter reps believe that everything is wonderful other than the bad egg Conway. Otherwise the club is magnificently run. The match day experience untouchable. My god what else could you want other than a damp corner in a cold carpark. The squad amazing and the CE the best in the business despite looking out of his depth (that’s just some clever 4D chess move). and the board now cleansed of Conway are of course cleansed of all responsibility. Don’t have the temerity to want something better or criticise anyone. Everything is brilliant apart from the lazy inconsiderate fans with their crazy demands for hot drinks or food, decent access to the ground and an entertaining team. That’s crazy talk. Know your place.
Awww. Shucks. I should be flattered at your obsession but it’s based on make believe comments that you like to type as fact. What’s the mantra you always peddle? Be kind or something completely inconsistent with how you behave on here. 99% of the stuff you’ve just typed hasn’t come out any supporters reps mouth. Nobody in their right mind is saying the squad is amazing for a start.
You say wasted a month, but if you look, I reckon about 80% of January transfers happened on deadline day. It's the same every year. Clubs for some reason, just aren't willing to let people leave until the very last day. It's been said elsewhere in this thread that we'd had other targets in that position in January that we simply failed to bring in. Leaving Kane out on loan was an odd decision though.
It perhaps wasn't such an odd decision as we orchestrated getting a fee to allow the agreement to be altered to keep him out on loan. Which I said at the time was perhaps symptomatic of our desperate need for cash.
I understand that, and if we'd have stayed up, it would have looked like a good move. I guess we must have had confidence in finding the right midfield combination. I've no issues with Kane going out on loan by the way, I thought it was a good move for his development, and he'll be an integral part of the squad this coming season.
