Great goalie was Nigel Batch. They had a great team from 78 - 82 (sound familiar ? Lol) and we had some right games with them roundabout that time. 81/82... Didn't we lose 3-2 after being 2-0 up?
Around that time, Grimsby and Rotherham seemed to be the most regular away trips for me anyway. Was it a bit later when Garner at Blackburn always seemed to score against us ?
I had to work that day. I can remember me and my boss listening to the updates coming through on the radio. We were flat the next couple of games and our chance had gone. Funny that it was Grimsby who did us a massive favour 15 years later at Molinieux.
And well done to them for it. I specifically didn’t mention Grimsby deliberately. It was however more a reference to the many ex league clubs in the national league who think they are owed something because they used to play in the league.
Can't remember that one, just the flat, nil nil v Derby on Easter Monday where it felt the chance had gone.
In everyones opinion. I'd think. We would have been promoted with 5 more points. Lost that and dropped 7 points in the 8 games after. 4 wins. 3 draws and 1 loss. The Grimsby game affected the players terribly. then we were awful for the next 2 games. (draws) Then we recovered some form A side imo. That would have coped in div 1. (Aka premier).and graced it.
Yep, back in those days a couple of decent additions could well have had us competitive in Division One.
It was a great team wasn't it? And there was always a buzz around the place.. Back then, clubs could go up and stay in the top flight on merit.
I can't understand the niceness on here towards Grimmersby. As they were often one of our regular rivals, I've got no liking for them at all.
