to be fair your response to me brought Khaled into the equation. I think it's a fair question. since he's come in as CEO, given his accountabilities, what do you think he's achieved? it's not club bashing, or Khaled bashing. it's a reasonable question to ask.
At the moment I don't think about his tenure in achievements. He came into a club that was on its backside both on and off the pitch. His first public meeting he got slaughtered by the usual one or two for not giving clear enough or the answers they wanted to hear.My view was he'd only been here a couple of weeks and it was far too early to make a judgement. I'd like to see what he brings to the table before I hang draw and quarter him.Khaled and the board have a very crucial couple of months coming up.
tbf he's the CEO. he absolutely should be judged on his achievements. that's the very thing CEOs are judged on. he's been at the Club nearly 12 months, and by his own words has 99.9% accountability. for me we've gone dramatically backwards both on and off the pitch, since dane left and Khaled joined. I'm genuinely struggling to see what meaningful positive impact he's had in his first 12 months.
Fair comment Marc ,personally from what he took over I'll give him more time before I judge.Don't forget Mansford ,Gautier and Murphy were all written off in there first year but they turned opinions round.
Sorry if reported elsewhere but Blackpool fans have gone into semi-meltdown and are fearing that they might end up with Appleton! Telegraph reporter Sam Wallace provided an update on the Blackpool situation this (Thursday) evening, revealing that Liam Rosenior has some key concerns that saw him reject the chance to take over unless changes are made. “Liam Rosenior has turned down the Blackpool manager job, as currently offered. Talks ongoing over squad budget & training ground issues. Most recent meeting with club was on Tuesday, following initial interview. Derby County due £300k compensation if agreement is reached.” Michael Appleton was interviewed on Wednesday and Blackpool deny they have offered the job to Rosenior. So either journalistic/agent stirring or turning into a bit of a dog's dinner by the seaside.
Duff confirmed in one of the clips yesterday that he turned down 3/4 other approaches to come to us. Would guess one of those was Blackpool, but turned down in this sense might be a similar context to Big Mick turning down our ‘offer’. Pulled out of the running more likely. Either way, another positive for the club in getting their man and selling the vision of the new board post Conway and co.
Aren't Blackpool run on a similarly small/realistic budget to us? If that is the case you'd expect they may well have reached their high water mark and gravity is inevitably going to catch up with them. On balance he may have thought the probability of having two or three successful seasons was more likely to be with us than them. A season of consolidation followed by a couple of tilts at promotion at Oakwell would look pretty decent on his cv and, if he gets us up, he can then pretty much guarantee a job at a big hitting Championship club.
Duff is certainly ambitious. And sees us as a stepping stone to greater things to come. Only time will tell whether those ambitions come to fruition. Many a manager have taken the big leap early and on many occasions failed, either never to be seen again or dropped further down the ladder. Duff has to have much more say than previous managers that were under Conway or I fear the worst.
I think it's all in the terminology or interpretation. Pulling yourself out of discussions could be seen as turning the job down, but at the same time you've not actually had a job offer to turn down. But you are turning down the chance to go further in the process/talks. See Mick McCarthy as another example of this.
I dont think its just a case of letting duff have more say. We need to change the sort of players were looking at bin off the forign ones from poor leagues and the premier league u23 players in particular. Conway did a terrible job last summer wasting half our budget on 2 players sold to him by agents allegedly and not data driven. I have confidence in duff but he needs sometime because last summer set the club back years.
Letting Duff have more say includes his input on players. I've just posted on another thread he hasn't ruled out Going back to Cheltenham for players. (On their fans forum) I'm guessing won't be on the spreadsheet. Who he thinks would do a good job.
Good article from Leon this morning - https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...duff-arrives-at-oakwell-on-high-alert-3735049 I wouldn't be so quick to rule out players from overseas. Madds and Helik have been positive additions to the squad, as was Dike and Sollbauer. The key is allowing Duff and the recruitment team to focus on what the data is telling us, supplemented by bringing in the right kind of characters and personalities (I think Duff will nail this), and then bring some experience in to the middle of the pitch. I don't really care if that experience is 200 games in Poland, Italy, or Austria, as long as we have someone vocal and who can lead the team through games. They don't even need to be 'old'. We were far too quiet last season. Morris excluded.
