I'd definitely recommend the Grill Pit ,used to be Yorkshire Bank. And Wetherspoon's are extending into the Wakefield Tavern next door.
Around 89/90 we used to go once a month from Lincoln. Once a month Doncaster, Once a month Nottingham.
Ive heard that for ages now, that the Wethers were planning on extending into the Tav corner pub. Maybe covid stopped them doing it in 20 & 21.
Makes no diffrence if its tory or labour... like most town centers barnsley, rotherham etc wakefield is no diffrent dying on its arse shops shutting left right and center even Macdonalds closed the town center store a few years back, the trinity cemter more or less killed the ridings, borded up shops everywhere the kirkgate area and precinct full of drinkers and drug users. I think alot of thing have contributed to this over the years when i was a kids the market would was packed the town center packed on Saturdays and friday and saturdays good nightlife now sadly its all gone.
Really, as long as that? Geez, I had no idea it was that long. 85-90 were my years, particularly 85-87 when it used to more or less be a twice weekly night out. Friday night, then 10p a pint night on a Monday. Couple of quid to get in then as much water / lager as you could manage and still change from a quid. Used to love how you then make your way through the dividing door into the late night club next door, the name of which I can never remember. Edit- just looked it up. Casanovas.
Remember when Wooly's used to be up there. Theres a decent pub as well nearer to the station, in the 'bull ring' area. It was done up a few years ago, but I can't remember its name.
I think this went in the mid-90’s. Used to be the venue for the ‘pop and crisps night’ when I was at school and always swerved it, but had gone by the time legal drinking age hit in 2000
What you get up to and where you go is your business, nowt to do with me lol. And theres a song about that, in't there ?. GB, Im gonna take you to a GB GB GB.
You mean near the train station … Black Horse. No real decent pubs near Bull Ring ( you can’t mean the Blind Pig or Strafford ?? )
He said recently done up so that rules either of those 2 out okay if you want to rough it and have a cheap pint though.
Talbot and Falcon pre-posh refurb and food menu. A proper pub. First pub I became a regular in at 16.
Yeah I think it might be the Strafford ?. Ok it might not have been done up recently, 3 or 4 years ago maybe. The best thing though about Wakey, is the 189 bus back to Normy.
It’s been shut down for nearly a year and just reopened. It hasn’t been more than an 8.00 am opening karaoke bar for years. Many moons ago it was cracking Tetleys and was frequented by bus drivers .. really.
Tetley’s was my drink in there. Used to visit 3/4 times a week late 90’s and early 2000’s. Not a food menu in sight from memory and definitely no karaoke.
